: Will Edge Evo stop my exhaust hiss?
BuckElk 02-26-2010, 12:08 AM I have an '07 classic lbz. it has a 5" silverline, no cat, no muffler. it hisses like a turbine engine and I love it. Its music to my ears. I am looking at adding the Edge Evo for fuel mileage and occasional towing. Will it change my hiss?
AlligatorPerformance 02-26-2010, 12:15 AM Absolutely stops the hiss, makes it rumble like an LB7. I run the EVO on my 06, it works well for my needs. Let me know if I can help you with one. http://www.alligatorperformance.com/edge-25500-evolution-race-tuner-0609-lbzlmm-delete-capable-stock-free-next-p-3646.html

Dang that sucks - I smile every time I hear it! I'm very glad to find someone running the Evo on an LBZ. I'm first going to do a transgo jr kit. Have you been happy with the Evo on the LBZ? What about fuel mileage? Is there a difference between the Evo and the Evo Race?
Thanks a ton,
Brandon

No problem Brandon. I love the way it runs on my truck, I have been running one since it was in Alpha Testing stages months before they were released to the public. The tuner has worked flawlessly, lots of power, good drive-ability, and the turbo brake in level 2 is a nice feature. The mileage on summer fuel kept me around 15 in town, and 19-21 on the highway, depending on how fast I was driving.
As far as the differences go, the first 4 power levels are the same between the two, but the Race version turns off the EGR, it also blocks codes for turbo back exhaust and blocker plates, the std. version does not. They both have the turbo brake feature in power level 2 though...

Great info - thanks. Do you have the transgo jr kit on your truck? Do you carry them? I'm wondering if the kit will be very necessary considering at most the Evo adds 100 hp.
craneop 02-26-2010, 10:16 AM i thought i read there was a hot unlock . for the evo? adds a couple settings?
and turbo brake in level 2? thats news to me? i never read about that. and i usually only have it on the first or 3rd setting. i will try it out. does it have to be in tow haul mode on 2nd setting?
Tyler@MPF 02-26-2010, 11:15 AM The hot unlock code opens 3 more hp levels but still does not block the egr and dpf related codes. The turbine brake works without using tow haul.

dpf delete codes shouldn't apply to an '07 classic lbz though right? I already do not have a cat or muffler with a silverline exhaust and have never had a code.
craneop 02-26-2010, 11:29 AM man i feel like an idiot. for not knowing about the turbo brake. would that explain why number 2 accelerated nothing like number 3?its only a 25 hp increase. and it is night and day. i have 06 lbz so no dpf. i was planning on blocking my egr soon cause i haven't yet.
would this turbo brake have been a recent update with fuzion software? its been a little over a year since its been updated. i never pull it out of truck. except for yesterday. my truck has a recall for an update on the ecm. i think it has to do with high idle. so i did program it back ot stock. pull out and updated it yesterday. can't wait to get it back now.

you do not have a dpf. so dpf codes won't apply. deleting the egr will throw codes for u though
BuckElk 02-26-2010, 11:31 AM you do not have a dpf.
Thats what I thought - thanks
AB-DMAX 02-26-2010, 01:34 PM I sold my Bullydog and got the evo. I also had it unlocked it is an extra 100 buck. I got the unlock for the millage tune but haven't really tried it yet. I have been running it on level4 most of the time and love the power just hope the tranny holds up.

So the first 4 levels are the same between the two EVOs? I know that they are the same power wise, but people keep telling me the tunes are different. I have been struggling to get a straight answer on this.
I was also under the impression that the turbo brake only functioned when in tow/haul mode. At least that is what I was told.

I will have a similar set up and I'm wondering how you would describe the sound at the tailpipe.
Thanks
craneop 02-26-2010, 04:55 PM for the turbo brake option. on tow haul mode do you have to be in the higher rpm for this to be effective? as in manually downshifting? i just put my recently updated evo back in . and loaded the tow setting . there is nothing real obvious about it? i was expecting it to be similar to the dodge. but its not. i expected the turbo to sound alot different and it doesn't either. i was also not pulling anything . maybe with a load on it would be more obvious? when i started manually down shifting , i downshifted from 3rd to 2nd not in tow haul mode. i hit 2500rpm and i could feel it drag a bit better but sounded nothing like a jake would. when i tried this several times i was back and forth in tow haul mode. in haul mode it just felt normal where as the tranny was doing most of the work. so i think. i wasn't in ideal highway roads either. i will go for another boot later on highway. i was in traffic on freeway lots of stop and go. wasn't the best conditions .any ideas or suggestions? or is this just a real mild turbo brake or what?

i have a 4" mbrp turbo back exhaust. at idle i don't see any difference on stock or one of the evo settings. when my truck high idles i can really here the turbo whistle. it has nothing to do with the evo. its the open exhaust. no cat.

Good deal thanks. Maybe I misunderstood the hiss.

Are you sure that your EVO has been updated to the latest version? I don't think that the Turbo Brake option was added untill an update that was released sometime in December. I bought my Evo CTS about 3 weeks ago, and I needed to update it before the turbo break would work. You won't hear any sounds like a heavy duty "Jake" on a big rig. Here is what I notice about it:
I tow about a 10,000 pound toy hauler. with Tow-Haul mode on and in Level 2, it will take a couple seconds before the brake kicks in. I figure it is about 2-3 seconds after you let off the throttle. After those 3 seconds or so, I hear the turbo begin to spool up and the truck will either hold it's speed or begin to slow down...i notice also that the boost will rise a bit. Coming down the the steepest part of the Grapevine on the north bound side here in Southern Cali, the truck holds 55mph in 4th gear with out any brake checks. Before on the same stretch of road and about the same load, I would have to brake check quite a bit to keep everything within legal speeds. I find that 6th gear isn't very effective, so manual shifting down when you need it is the way to go.:coolnana:

thanks. i went for another cruise tonight. and i do notice the drag kick in after about 2 seconds in tow haul mode. i imagine it would work better if i was pulling something. i did just update my evolution today. does anybody know if this would be the equivalent of what the guys are using with efi turbo brake? i was planning on selling this evo. but i'm having second thoughts after learning about this turbo brake.

Same function in EFI as you have on the Edge.

I have a full Suncoast Stage IV & 1058 triple disc converter in my truck, and that kit does have the transgo jr.
I think even a stock truck that is used hard could benefit from a trans go, as it will give you more holding power, leading to longer life down the road.
We carry the full line of Edge Products, let me know if I can help.
