Good morning to all. Are there several different methods for calcuating fuel economy? Basically, I'm curious as to how you all come up with your numbers. I've read that the DIC is often incorrect. Thanks.

My LS is female, doesn't have a DIC (stole that line from another post on here) Just fill until can see fuel in fill tube. Usually another gallon after the automatic 'click' shutoff. Divide miles driven by gallons bought. Pretty much gives a common point of reference every fillup.

That is way too simple. I prefer to read the number of microliters of fuel injected per injection on my scanner, multiply that by the injections per mile, then convert that to miles per gallon.):h (http://dieselplace.com/forum/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&f=40#)

Found the DIC on my unit to be about one half mile per gallon more than hand calculated. Hand calculation assumes the fuel dispensing pumps are 100% accurate. Sure there are discrepancies with either method.

With credit to JJ, here is everything you will ever want to know when it comes to figuring fuel mileage here at the Diesel Place. Enjoy!

Since you asked the question, you may be a potential member for the AAAA club, but that is another post:

JJ said I should join, but he didn't know that I am already a member of a Procrastinators club.

The best thing I have found for using the mileage indicator on the DIC is to give me a decent idea of what my mileage will be, and if I increase or decrease my speed and settle it on cruise I can see the benefit or penalty via the DIC.:)

Like the others, I have found my DIC to be off somewhat. Seems my DIC tends to exaggerate upwards. The wife says this is a common trait among DIC owners.

Go figure.
