: Chrome or Polished? Why and what kind of driving do you do?
Just picked up a set of American Racing Trax 8 wheels, 20x10. I ordered polished but after I took a closer look at them, found out that they sent me chrome. Now I am debating wether to call them back up and exchange them (might have to wait, as there were only a handfull of these wheels released).
What do you guys think? Chrome or polished? These wheels WILL see some dirt/sand and track, but are primarily road wheels. This will be on the truck once its lifted.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Trax 8 Chrome, 8 spoke, regular Trax is 10 spoke (http://americanracing.com/wheels/details.asp?parent=192&wheelid=193&name=Trax/Trax%208%20Forged&style=9211&desc=1-piece%20polished%20forged%20alloy§ion=S)
rolloffhill 06-22-2005, 11:37 PM Won't ever have to polish chrome...
TheMonkey 06-22-2005, 11:42 PM get em on the truck! chrome is easier to maintain, and would have been my first choice. don't look back!
MuddinDirty 06-22-2005, 11:43 PM Chrome all the way man!!!! I had a set of polished centerline's on my '01 and it sucked trying to keep them shiny. Much more upkeep involved. Did they invoice you for chrome or polished? You got a steal if they charged you for polished the way chrome prices are. That's why I went w/ chrome H2's, wash them w/ soap and water and shine them up with windex and newspaper, no lint left on rim.
BTW, If I saw those first I probably would have gotten' them. Nice wheels man!!!
Damn y'all type fast!!!
Duratys 06-22-2005, 11:45 PM After owning a set of polished rims they will be the last set. My vote goes to the chromed set! Cleaning the chromed ones will be a heck of a lot easier. JMHO
hehe, I am just really afraid I will end up chipping the chrome from rocks/debris.. Then BOOM, big old nasty flaky mess that I loose my wheel for XXXX weeks to get redone.
I was invoiced for polished, got these wheels for a steal as it is, retail, the polished are $675 ea, I picked them up for $400 pc.. and since they are chrome, I figure I ran out the door with at least $200-300 discount.. thats if I do keep them, but from what you guys are saying, I think I might!!!

american racing have been chroming wheels awhile. at those prices, i think they should be pretty solid.
Thanks for the info guys, think I might keep these badboys afterall..
here are some pics, just snapped them:
Bodysurfer 06-23-2005, 12:20 AM Hey brother, keep those puppies. Cool looking rims and CHROME...I like chrome and thats why I have chrome.

B-rad 06-23-2005, 12:59 AM nope
Bodysurfer 06-23-2005, 01:02 AM Let me see:
TheMonkey 06-23-2005, 01:40 AM very nice. those are 20's? what are the tires? xxl?
Bodysurfer 06-23-2005, 05:34 AM Okay Cid, now really......you thought about returning those???? Have you been taking in too much diesel?
PUT THOSE BAD BOYS ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:ro) :ro) :ro) :ro) :ro)
LATER!
hehe, actually yes, I've had diesel all over my hands and clothes for the past few days.. have a leak in one of my FM100's t hen it died on me, so getting a replacement for it in the mail..
Yeah, was unsure what I was going to do, but I think im going to stick with the chrome, as long as its easy to clean, and will last.
Do you have any problems or chips in it?
Oh, cant put them on yet, unless I want the "cholo-mobile" look... will stick out way too much, waiting to lift this sucker, but not sure yet, thinking a 6-8 or 9-11 CST.. want to be able to go to the track still though, so I think the 6-8..
devil 06-23-2005, 01:42 PM I can't believe you thought twice about that.-----Chrome is the only way to go, so easy to clean.
RICKYY 06-26-2005, 06:05 PM Those are really nice wheels, I like them almost as much as Welds. There is no comparison between polished and chrome, polished look Ok for a short while when new and then look like crap. Chrome looks good to the end which is why I put chrome Boyd Coddingtons on my truck. My neighborhood is filled with nice trucks with cheap looking polished wheels. They all have 8 round holes.
Don't know why you are so worried about rock chips, anything can get chipped, broken, bent, whatever.
Can't believe you considered returning them for polished, especially for the price you paid. I wish the parts guys would make mistakes for me like that.
Enjoy them...very nice.
Rick
Jim659 06-26-2005, 11:35 PM I have owned just about every type of wheel finish offered, chrome is by far the easiest, fastest finish to keep clean that there is. They last longer and look better longer than anything else, put them on and don't look back, you won't be sorry.:exactly:
hehe, thanks for all the info guys.. now all this reassurance has made me decide to keep them. Just was worried about it because I had a friend who got chrome and had a bastard of a time with chipping and longevity.
Will post pics when I get these suckers on, might be another few months though, going to be lifted soon, now just trying to figure out what to do there, 6-8 or a 9.. I do drag race so thats my biggest concern.
Biterman 06-27-2005, 10:34 AM Oh, and the chrome American Racings are about 30% more than the polished ones. YOU SCORED!
I have American Racing D-8s on my dually. The finish is mirror and the plating is amazingly thick. You will be very happy with these wheels for a long time.
Make sure you go to someone with an I.Q. above room temperature for installation or they can hit the wheel with their equipment and that could start the peeling process.
