: How about a Tech 2 for tuning?

I have a buddy that's letting me borrow his Tech 2 to figure some stuff out on my wife's car and so that I could check the balance rates on my truck. I've been messing around with it just to check data and I used the special tools section to check FRP. I have seen where people have posted on here that the dealer could use one to flash the stock tune back on a truck, but what about the other way around? Is there a way to put a tune on my truck with it? If so, how would I go about it specifically?
My truck is stock, although it lost it's cat before I got it, so I'm not looking to go to the extreme of what EFI Live or other tuners can do. Just maybe a little better mileage or shifting. Any input would be appreciated.

no, a tech 2 can not do anything in terms of performance...

no a tech 2 alone can not change any performance calibrations. You have to have TIS2WEB which is GMs system for reprograming systems. the tech 2 acts as a commution link to the vehicle. and plus they cost $3000 for a dealer.

Like stated above, its an indispensable tool. However, its a diagnostic tool.

Thanks for the input. I was trying to check into the ECM, PCM reprogramming,or initial programming in the case of a new one, and like you said it has to be hooked to a terminal from GM after you have loaded info from the vehicle. Then you have to hook it back into the vehicle to load the data it receives from the terminal. Oh well, not that I was going to go buy a 3-4,000 dollar Tech 2 to try and get a tune, just had it in my hands for a while and thought about it.
