I just bought a 04 chevy duramax, not sure if its 04 or 04 1/2. Its a extended cab 4x4 and I'm only getting 13 miles to the gallon. I love my new truck, but I'm not happy with the fuel mileage. It only has 75000 miles on it and I would like some advice on how to increase my mileage. Any help will be apreciated, Thanks

Search this forum for mileage - much has already been written.
Without expensive upgrades try Clean Air filter, fuel filter, Tire pressure at high end.
Heavy Diesels just won't give you good mileage on short trips in town (stop and go) in cold weather.
To get better mileage, you need to get up to full operating temperature, and run steady speeds at around 60-65 mph for longer distances.

Want good mileage? sell your truck and pick up a TDI jetta
a programmer will help, as long as your right foot doesnt counteract the positive effects of more power.. and it will LOL
Robs right, need to make it work, and keep the speeds down, keep rpms under 2k when accelerating, and keep speeds at 60-65mph and you should see an good increase in mileage

Where abouts do you live? Here in alberta, we have the wonderful winter blend diesel fuel that i never get constant mileage with, sometimes its good, sometimes it bad. And i agree with keeping the rpm down, anything over 2000rpm kills my mileage.

How does the truck run?
Check the vin for what you have 8th digit should be a 1 for LB7(04) or a 2 for LLY(04.5), I believe?
Or you can crawl under the truck and see if you have a CAT, 04 no, 04.5 yes with EGR.
