I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500HD SRW crew cab with Duramax Diesel. I am getting it ready for a fifth wheel trailer. The owner's manual states that the power feed and the electric brake wires to the 7-wore connector are not attached at the underhood fuse box. According to the wiring diagram those are fuse 63 for power (40A) and fuse 19 for the electric brake (15A). I found the wire and the post for the power feed, but could not find a wire or a terminal for the electric brake.
I can see reasoning to not attach the power feed wire, but why would the brake controller wire be not attached?
Also, can the brake controller output be tested with a multimenter or a test light? I am going to pick my fifth wheel from out of state and I don't want any surprises.
Anyone help? Thanks.

First off, it looks like you have the Integrated Brake Controller, or are you using an aftermarket unit?

If you have the IBC, you need only hook up the 12V feed to the 7 pin. The IBC power wire is already connected. Go here for instructions:

If you are using an aftermarket, go here:

And if you have the IBC, you can't use a multimeter to reliably test the unit, as it requires a load to activate the system. And one more thing - if you have the IBC it does not work with hydraulic over electric - electric only...

Thanks for the input. I have the integrated brake controller, and you are right - it should be connected. I misread the manual, it states the brake wire is not connected for models without the integrated brake controller. Reading 101...
