: BIGGER fuel tank !!!!
FUBARcomps 06-22-2005, 05:27 PM ok, i know that the mileage will get better after 10k, but that still doesnt help the fact that i have to fuel from 2-4x's a week currently Censored . so i am on the hunt for a bigger fuel tank for the 2005 chevy 2500HD CC/SB...
any ideas, links, suggestions, etc.. on what could be done, or has been done i would appreaciate it.
:help:
the truck is -15days old and has 2500miles on it already.

8shot 06-22-2005, 09:05 PM Transfer flow is all good and easy to install.
Diesel Dragon 06-22-2005, 09:19 PM You can try Supertanks too

There web site could use some updating, best bet is to give them a call.
WI Huck 06-22-2005, 11:12 PM Transfer flow is all good and easy to install.
We put a factory tank replacement tank in a few weeks ago. Nice unit. Their in the bed units with the automatic control of fuel levels in the main and auxiliary tank are great also.
FUBARcomps 06-25-2005, 05:53 PM it looks like i will go with the supertank (60gal)$825 versus the transferflow tank (45gal)$770 at this time, the price difference is minimal, and 15gal diff between the 2 mfgr's as well. IF and when i lose my current job and start hauling mobile rv's/trailers, i will look into the in-bed tanks with the auto fuel transfer at that point.
unless someone found another mfgr, or better setup. i think that supertank is my current winner....
FUBARcomps 06-25-2005, 05:55 PM ps. does anyone have one of these 60gal supertanks installed in there trucks and how do you like/dislike it, pro's/con's ???? (other then $120+ per complete fill-up).

I have had a 57 gal. Supertank on my '03 Ext. Cab. Chev for over a year with no problems at all. It seems to be a quality product......mine was installed in Idaho Falls, Idaho by the Supertank dealer.):h
RickDLance 06-25-2005, 07:30 PM I have the RDS in bed tank/toolbox combo from northern hydraulics. I love it. I am on my 7th Duramax and none of them have gotten any better mileage after 10,000 miles, than the day they were new.
FUBARcomps 06-29-2005, 10:41 AM well i just got off the phone with supertanks, and they dont have any of the 60gal tanks left because they are selling all the current in-stock products, and re-engineering all of their stuff. i was told that they will have the new proto-types in by the end of this week, and hopefully ready for shipping in a couple weeks. so i guess i get to wait and see what happens on final product specs as well.
ok, any other ideas on getting better MPG's ?????
RickDLance 06-29-2005, 11:03 AM S&B air filter and box. exhaust. edge ez on 1. then let you grandmother drive it!
hog_face 06-29-2005, 11:36 PM I'd say the better mileage after 10,000 miles happens because most of us got over driving wide open every take off.
Speschl88 06-30-2005, 04:16 AM I got a 70gal transferflow and it works great it has an automatic refill sensor, no switch, fills me up when I hit a half tank. Best investment to date.
okeehandyman 06-30-2005, 11:27 AM I have two '05 2500 D/A's and neither one started getting any better mpg! One has 18K the other 9K. The only way to better mpg is a lighter foot on the pedal.
As for the tanks, those guys sure are proud of their products aren't they. If you want an in bed tank, you can have a shop weld you a tank and purchase an electric fuel pump to transfer the fuel to the stock tank for a total of about $200.
mullis56 07-01-2005, 12:09 AM Can someone direct me of where I can professionally have someone install a larger tank for me? I am just not that comfortable doing that myself.
Thanks! I'd not be alive to post another post if I did it myself
RickDLance 07-01-2005, 01:13 AM mullis56, you might wanna let us know where your at. I have a place in Missouri that will do it.
mullis56 07-01-2005, 08:04 AM Does anyone know what types of places could install a tank for me? Also just so you know I am from Indiana. If you don't know of a specific place but the type of place to try to find that'd be great. Have a good 4th of July weekend!
RickDLance 07-01-2005, 05:21 PM Most of the truck accessory shops will do it.
FUBARcomps 07-11-2005, 05:34 PM ok, here i sit still waiting for supertanks to get their proto-type fuel cell done so i can get me a bigger tank to put into my new truck for long range driving. (mid-ship style, not the in-bed). but i see that edge has come out with a new unit that might help. the new edge A2 looks interesting.
ok, anyone have any better ideas to increase the MPG's??? i am game for any and all thoughts on this subject....
Cat 900 07-13-2005, 11:41 PM I got one of the supertanks 60 gallon tanks and installed it about 3 months ago...I really do like it and the extra distance between fill ups. Myself and a friend installed it and it went well. Instructions where straight forward and took 3-4 hours. The next one should take less time. One issue I had was 2 of the fittings were loose and we thought they did that on purpose to allow for hose placement during install...Once I filled it up it seeped when full...Once I ran it dry and lowered a little I tightened the fittings and seeled them. No more seeping.
I get some strange looks at the truck stop when I fill the tank...people can't believe that I'm still filling up when they don't see anything in the bed. I think you will like it, it's worth the wait.

I have had my supertank in for almost a year now and really like it. Landry Austin, the CEO of supertanks is great to work with - backs his product and really supports his customers. I had an issue with the original installer. Took it to Landry and he took care of all my concerns. Great customer service.
If you are really serious about increasing the MPG's, jump over to the Propane, Nitrous, & Water Meth section of the diesel place and read up on injecting propane. ):h

yea, this one kid at a accessory shop was telling me about that, and showed me an article about the MSD unit, and they are talking about 40mpg in that magazine.... ( talk about:grd: ) i will be looking in that section later tonight

how much :badidea: modifying:badidea: was there for that setup????
i had heard that you must remove the fuel cooler, and they use a heat fin assy for help cool the return fuel down, or something like that on the old kit...???
IIRC, the removal/replacement of the fuel cooler was on the older supertank models. I had the same concerns about messing with the fuel cooler. Supertanks modified the tank to go around the OEM cooler. In doing so they lost around 5 gal of capacity in the tank - something like 50 gallons vs. 55 gallons. To me it wasn't that big of a deal, it is still alot of fuel.
cadent45 07-19-2005, 08:36 PM Are you able to use most of the fuel? The rumors I hear is that the last 10 gallons are not able to be picked up? Is that the case with either of the tanks?
Fred G 07-20-2005, 12:11 PM I have the 45-gal tflow replacement tank and after 40,000 miles am very happy with it. Being able to go 350+ miles towing w/o a fill up is pretty sweet. Just be prepared for the eventual fill-up...ouch.

Does your fuel gauge work properly with the new tank? I heard that there is about 10 gallons that are unusable? Is that true?
Drew&Corinn 07-21-2005, 05:45 PM I would be careful about the Propane... I talked to my Diesel guy and he said that propane is very hard on the engine as it burns before the upstroke is completed so there is a lot of pressure on the engine that is not good...

Dutch110 07-30-2005, 06:54 PM Does your fuel gauge work properly with the new tank? I heard that there is about 10 gallons that are unusable? Is that true?
I was wondering the same thing. Put one in the F*&d dually we used to run and the fuel gauge never did work correctly. It would read empty for the last 100 or so miles in the tank. Used to bug the CRAP outta me on the long drives: "Uh, did the light come on 50 miles ago or 75? Let's see, subtract from 1000, carry the one, move the decimal place two positions to the right..... fuggit I better fuel up"
NOTNSUV 08-07-2005, 11:33 AM I just wrote to Titan to ask about gauge accuracy, bottom of tank fuel pickup and compatibility with the Nictane. Also asked if they'd install Nictane with the tank if I drive the truck up to Idaho Falls. Will post their response if ya like.
Now, I don't put a lot of miles on the Dmax so am just "considering" the Supertank - can't help it; it'd be too cool and very convenient. Hard to imagine 1000 mile range on a tank of fuel. However, do I want to have 75 gallons of diesel sitting in my truck over the winter? I'll be using an additive. Guess it wouldn't matter if I had 34 or 75 gallons, it would still be sitting.

Must be Ms. Rick suggesting that. Doesn't sound like RickD - even a little.

Utahski 08-09-2005, 01:18 AM My ext. cab SB has a 53 gal Supertanks. Not cheap but definitely worth the money. It's real nice having that extra capacity. Last trip was Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, drove around a couple days, then got fuel. The fuel gauge is still accurate, it just goes down a lot slower. And what the computer says for range, multiply by 2.
DuneMe 08-20-2005, 02:04 AM Anyone have theirs installed by Transfer Flow? They aren't that far away. Not afraid of doing the install myself but, if they aren't too much may have them do the installation.
With fuel at over $3/gallon the fill-ups are going to hurt.
I'm just thinking with pulling a trailer the less I have to pull over the less chance I will run into something.
FUBARcomps 08-21-2005, 10:14 PM i havent seen fuel at $3+ yet in my travels, but it is getting DAMN close... i paid 42.83/Gal the other day, and i thought that was insane....
why has diesel prices gone thru the roof ????
FUBARcomps 09-01-2005, 01:10 PM ok, that was a typo, not 42.83/gal, but $2.83/gal. i am sure most of you got that..
well i see that the fuel prices have gone thru the roof again, over $3.00+/gal last night thanks to the excuse of "katrina". i am now looking into the thought of dual tanks with alternate fuel useage as well. used cooking oil, natural biodiesel, etc....
any thoughts on this, or the links to chats on it????
JEBar 09-01-2005, 02:13 PM I ordered a 98 gallon cross bed tank from Transfer Flow a little over 2 weeks ago ... they told me when I placed the order that they were producing them as quickly as they can and were running about 2 weeks behind ... mine is supposed to have shipped on Tuesday (Aug. 30th) and will hopefully be in here right after Labor Day ... am really looking forward to getting it installed
Jim
FUBARcomps 09-18-2005, 11:58 AM ok, what is a cross-bed tank, is that one that sits in the front part of the bed and cradles the wheel-wells?? or does it go further then that??? i guess i am going to have to take a look at their webpage and see. i am still on the hunt for a good tank, and now with the idea of putting in a "grease car" adapter to run on cooking oil, i have to look at a couple diffent tank configuration combo's...
warren hart 09-19-2005, 10:49 PM I have a 05 3500 duramax 6.6 and I ADD A 55GAL TANK ON THE BACK AND PIPE IT INTO THE VENT PIPE FROM FILL TANK WITH A SHOUT OF VALVE ON THE TANK I FILL MY MAIN TANK AND THEN PUT THE FUEL CAP ON AND THEN FILL THE BACK TANK AND WHEN MY MAIN TANK GET LOW I OPEN THE VALVE AND WHILE I AM DRIVING IT FLOW INTO MY MAIN TANK IT WORK REAL GOOD I PURCHES MY TANK FROM NORTHERN TOOL AND EUUIPMENT ITEM NO 334293-1601 THIS IS FROM CATALOG #1601
PS. I COULD NOT LET IT FEED ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THE COMPUTER IN THE TRUCK WILL MAKE THE FUEL GAGE GO TO EMPTY AFTER A WHILE OF RUNNING HOPE THIS WILL HELP
Barkeep 09-27-2005, 07:25 PM I have been trying for over 2 weeks to reach Super Tanks. They do not have an 800 # anymore only a direct dial. I have left messages and no one bothers to call back nor do they respond to email.
Has anyone had any luck lately talking to these people?
Also, does anyone know if you can get a bigger replacement tank for a 2004 GMC Duramax diesel crew cab short bed than 45 gallons anywhere else besides Super Tanks? At the price of diesel nowadays, a 60+ gallon tank would get me some truck stop discounts which I would like to get.
I gotta say that Super Tanks is giving me a bad impression of their company or they are so busy that they don't need anymore customers.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Barkeep
I Picked Up A New 40 Gal Step Tank At A State Auction For 57 Bucks. Will Add A On & Off Valve And Electric Pump And Filter.
Should End Up With Less Then 200 Bucks In It. This Should Give Me Pretty Good Range.

lbz492 09-28-2005, 08:30 PM i talked to supertank a week ago and they redesigned there tanks and it is a 50gal tank now i ordered one they said a week ago there new tank will be out in about 3-4 weeks. you just need to call them direct i all ways called in the afternoon central time 208-542-2591
FUBARcomps 01-20-2006, 09:34 PM Ok, the new tank is in, WELL SORTA.... apparently I have become the new guinea-pig of this first-run production series. So I will start of by asking if anyone has had problems with their installation, and what where they???
i will be giving landry a chance to help straighten out the issues before i declare them publicly. and i am taking a guess that some of my issues that i presented to him might end up as design mod's, but we shall see.
Diesel Dragon 01-20-2006, 09:56 PM Talked to Landry the other day and the new tanks for the Crew Cab's are out but my Extended Cab version won't be out till February.
When I spoke to him in the fall he said that the new tanks would have a tapered bottom to direct more of the fuel towards the sending unit so the last bit of the fuel would be used.
Hopefully soon.

My install issues were not issues with the design, but rather issues with the installers I chose. They didn't know what the @#$ they were doing. Give Landry a chance. He sent me to another installer and took care of all my issues and concerns.
