I'm thinking of changing my 07 classic 2500 16 inch wheels to the later design 08-9 models, problem being, they're 17 inch. Can I have my speedo reprogrammed or do I even need to? I stiil have the stock 245 tires on it, I just happen to think the new wheels look good on our classics, any thoughts?

My LT285-60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers on 18" x 9" wheels are only slightly larger in diameter than the stock 245-75/16s (my truck is not lifted). I didn't bother to adjust the speedometer but any programmer can do that.
The wheel/tire swap was by far the best upgrade to the truck that I've done in terms of looks and performance (see my garage). The improvement in handling and maneuverability was spectacular. If you're going to pay for new wheels then don't be half-assed about it. Upgrade to a size that will really make a difference.

The 08-09 should come with 265-70-17 tires on them if you are able to find a complete set. The outside diameter of these tires are the same as the 265-75-16. When I got mine I looked at the spare on the 09 and it was a 265-75-16 so I just kept my original spare as I had already replaced my 245's with 265's. You'll need to change your spare to a 265 as well. Going from a 245 tire to a 265 tire only puts the speed out by 1.5 to 2 mph. With the 265 tires my speedo now reads the same as the GPS. I payed $1350CDN for the 17" rims with new OEM tires and sold my 16" rims and tires for $650CDN. I ended up with new 17" rims and tires for about half what it would cost to buy just a good set of tires. The OEM Bridgestones will be good for a couple of years of trailer towing.

Thanks, just what I wanted to know...I've seen a couple classics with late model wheels and I like the look. Plus, the wheel tire combo are not expensive to swap making this an affordable mod.

I got my rims/tires off Kijiji Edmonton. There is a set of four GM 17" rims, 8 lug, on there now for $750 off an 08. Some of the truck accessory places also deal in takeoffs
