: Ideal 265's
UTK country 06-22-2005, 11:19 AM Brand new truck with the 245 Off Road tires and I'm wondering what the best 265 tire would be for a 3/4 ton Duramax. My old truck had stock 245's, and I think they are fine tires, but would like to look at the option of moving up to 265's since the tires are brand new. I appreciate any suggestions.

Will be buying another set in about a month. Got 45k on these and that's with some heavy towing at times. I'm very pleased with them.
ratlover 06-22-2005, 01:19 PM I like my dunlop radial rover rt's. The load rating aint what some are though. you going to tow heavy with yours or what?
UTK country 06-24-2005, 12:18 PM Maybe one day. I'm mostly looking for the best tire to fuel economy and safety. The best looking tire is also a factor.
VFRRider 06-24-2005, 12:28 PM I'm driving across the country on a new set of Cooper Discoverer ATR's in 265. Towing a 10K 5th.
Initial impressions
More sidewall flex than with 245's. I can notice it when swerving, there is a perceptible lag from when I make a steering input and the truck tracks, and a slight over travel as the rear end weaves back in line. I mean slight, but I notice it. Was a bit unnerving at first. I got on an open road (not towing) and did some agressive swerving and manuvering, noticed it right away.
I don't know if all 265's will have this, or just the ATR's I'm using.
But the ATR's have great grip, probably because they are new. They don't want to break loose, on acceleration or on swerving.
As I tow, I'm running 80psi rear and 70psi front.
Diesel Power 06-24-2005, 01:00 PM i always liked the BFG A/T's..
ratlover 06-24-2005, 01:08 PM The dunlops handle really well in the snow especially for an AT tire. I plow snow so snow traction is a big thing for me. Handle well in the rain. They are fairly cheap from tirerack.com too. Duno how thier wear is.....well I know how they wear on my truck but my driving is "spirited":muahaha:
fool32696 06-25-2005, 12:49 AM I'm really happy with my new 265/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I got them in a load range E for $125 a piece. They seem to run quieter than most all-terrains that I've been around. I only have about 1k miles on them so I really can't comment on wear.
dan_diesel 06-25-2005, 06:36 PM What's the load rating on those Nitto's? My truck came with 265/75 E rated Bridgestones in more of a hiway tread (don't recall what their name is). On the sidewall they say load rating is 3415 @ 80psi, but on the drivers door it says not to run them over 75psi or carry more than 2900lbs in my truck (total, including passengers) -:t . Plus they ride like crap. My guess is after losing all that money in the Ford explorer roll-over lawsuits, they built a super strong tire and then de-rate it on the door sticker. I can't take enough air out of these and they still go bouncy bounce down the wash-board roads...
So I'm looking for a good replacement too...
I've got the BFG AT KO's and I like em for snow and ice and there not too noisy on the highway. Only load range D though - heard an E is coming out however.
gelecon 06-25-2005, 10:12 PM I ran BFG AT KO's on my duramax (265's/75R16) load range D. The weight rating was the same on the BFG's as it was on my stock load range E tires. The BFG's also have an extra ply in the sidewall. When my Cummins is ready for a new set I will be going to 285 /70/17's BFG AT KO's. My .o2 worth.
HeavyHardware 06-25-2005, 10:54 PM Very happy with my Dayton Timberline AT's
Sidebite252 06-26-2005, 03:58 AM I've got about 6000 on my Firestone Transforce AT 265's and so far so good. Nice ride & not much noise. Why don't they put 265's on these trucks from the factory. My opinion is they would last longer than the 245's. I paid about $680 for the set.
Kartattack 06-26-2005, 02:18 PM Sam's had BFG TAKOs in 265-75/16 for $140 yesterday. 285s were about $160. I think I may have to sell my wheels and go back to the stockers at the prices that size cost.
fool32696 06-26-2005, 05:35 PM To answer Dan Diesels question, the Nittos are 10 plys rated for 3415 lbs. I've been running 75psi in them, I'm sure they would ride better with about 60psi but that diesel in the front end like to make tires sag.
Jim659 06-26-2005, 11:47 PM I'm running Toyo open country AT's ,and after running BFG's for ten years I have to say I am really happy with the performance of these tires. I would buy them again hands down over the BFG's for handling and smoothness.
Scotty Seelen 06-28-2005, 05:45 PM Michelin LTX AT's. I haven't found an all terrain tire that will match it's tread life.

Jim do u tow a lot of weight w/ them?
Wondering how they handle w/ 15,000# behind the truck, the BFG's are real good.
I like the 3 ply sidewalls my BFG's have.
noreaster 06-29-2005, 01:55 AM I had MickeyThompson MTX 265s, got 48k out of them.
Pretty dam good in any condition.

What Scotty said.:exactly:
Refuse to buy Michellins..... French company.... that and the whole USGP fiasco

I like the 3 ply sidewalls my BFG's have. Yeah I tow everyday, these Toyo's are just as good if not better than BFG's, I know from experience, I've probably gone through 15 sets of BFG's before trying these Toyo's. I'd run either one though.
weekilty 06-29-2005, 03:33 PM TOYO Open Country
265/75-16 10 ply
luvthesmellofdiesel 06-29-2005, 04:02 PM If you can wait 3 months, the BFG 265 TA KO's in load range E should be available, check their website, it says 3Q 2005.
I have Nitto Terra Grappler 265's load range E and they wear out too fast for me. I have about 25K on em and they're nearly whipped. I would not recommend Nitto's unless you can get em for half the price of normal tires since they wear out twice as fast.
