: Injector Warranty ?
Bartman432 02-18-2010, 05:53 PM My buddy at work has a 2002 Duramax that is bone stock, but looks like is having one of the injectors fail. The truck has 110,000 miles on it. Is he screwed, or will GM cover the replacement of the injector(s) under warranty. I read that some of our trucks are getting a 200,000 mile coverage on injectors.
Brad92 02-18-2010, 06:02 PM He is screwed b/c it is 7 yrs or 200,000 miles. His truck is too old to qualify.
marinemommy 02-18-2010, 06:49 PM Yep,just went through same thing..7 years OR 200,000..which ever comes first...sucks as our truck just has 92,000. We just picked up truck today for 4000.00. ahhhhhh..maybe somewhere down the road someone will realize that it should be 200,000 no matter how old the truck. Mechanic told hubby that he's seeing more and more 01 and 02's coming through.
Bartman432 02-19-2010, 12:36 AM Thanks guys for the replies. I will let my friend know he is SOL.
1LTREATR 02-19-2010, 12:56 AM yea even if it was an 04 with 10k miles on it....hed still probably be screwed
Not true. I just took my 2003 in with 4 months left (june 2003 service date) on the specilal policy. They ran the $90 diagnostice fee found it to be bad injectors and my truck is at the dealer right now getting all 8 injectors and new 12 month warranty or 12K miles. My truck only has 77,500 miles on it and when I changed the oil last week it I got more then 10 quarts out so I knew the injectors had finally failed..GM is paying for the whole thing no deductible and waived the $90 diagnostic fee. As I had just put new AC Delco Air, Fuel and Oil filters on last week they will not charge me for those either. Like getting a brand new truck :)

1LTREATR 02-19-2010, 07:43 PM sweet, id go buy some lottery tickets if I were you.
bluestar435 02-19-2010, 08:27 PM I have an 01 with no issues but i know they are coming. Is there a fix to problem (different brand, date code) anything to solve the problem.
blackyss13 02-19-2010, 10:07 PM I've had mine replaced once, like 123K, now at 195 numbers 1 and 8 aren't flowing correctly. My truck is a 2003. Does this mean I'm screwed?
kcb37 02-19-2010, 11:30 PM Depends. I asked about mine maybe a month ago. My 03 was built and bought in late 02 (can't remeber the month) So mine is past 7 years. (I believe it is written warranty starts date of delivery to 1st owner, something like that) At anyrate mine is out.
You will have to ask your dealer.
On that note, I have seen several post with trucks being past warranty and dealers changing them under warranty anyway. Also took my truck yesterday to get injectors. Service guy said he would try to warranty them. Think it's a strech though cause I'm pretty sure mine is 4 or 5 months out, but well see.
GM Service writer at my dealer told me it is the service date they will run your VIN which will tell you also look on the driver door I believe that is the service date as well

sfcjones 02-20-2010, 07:25 AM Service date is basically the customer pick up date, date on the door represents the build date. So if it was a 02 but yet it wasn't sold until 03 there might be a chance.....
ticki2 02-20-2010, 09:35 AM The time is based on the IN SERVICE DATE , not the build date . Just had mine replaced under warranty and it was 3 months past the cut off date . I asked the dealer how he did that , he just winked , so I let it be. If you have a good dealer and or good relationship with the dealer I would talk to them if you're close or just over the time limit. Good luck

I am coming down to the wire also as mine is up in June. Just started seeing white smoke at idle. Hope my luck is a good as yours was!!
lynn1130 02-22-2010, 10:35 AM 04 with 50,000 miles that began to smoke at idle and put out a large amount of smoke on startup. I can't tell you what the in-service date is because it is at the dealer for full injector replacement under warranty but the delivery date was 3-14-04.
Someone said that an 04 would not be covered but it has been about 6 years by my count so the warranties are still good.
dux5977 02-22-2010, 11:33 AM that there needs to be 2 or more to be bad for the extended warranty to cover it. doesnt sound right to me. i have 2004 chevy duramax LB7 88,700mis service date: 9-23-2003, warranty start date is: 11-5-2003 im assuming that this is the date i need to watch.
hey dux go to another dealer that one is completly full of crap
maxinDixon 02-22-2010, 01:20 PM ^^ agreed.
lynn1130 02-22-2010, 04:49 PM I got my truck back today with 8 new injectors. The service advisor told me that these "new and improved" injectors were much better than what had been used in the past. We will see with that, but what I did learn is that this job is now a one time deal for any vehicle. Obama Motors will not do more than one. On top of that if you have EVER had a chip on the vehicle the warranty work will be denied and you will pay for the replacement. They now run a history on the ECM when diagnosis is done on the problem.
I would still have about a year on the 7 year warranty if this job had not been done but the parts have a 12 month 12000 mile warranty so it comes out about the same, except I pay labor if it has to be done again in the next year.
I am all for the class action suit.
DirtyMAX1422 02-22-2010, 09:42 PM Also with any kind of GM special policy or warranty issue the service manager at the dealership has a window that they could still "good will" the reapir and it wouldn't cost you a dime! Try contacting GM's customer service line they barley speak english but are usually helpful! kinda gotta rate them over the coals but it works and it's worth a shot!
Not true..I had run an edge module with attitude for 6 years and removed the whole system before I took my truck to the dealer. They never asked nor did they call me saying that I had a chip in the truck. No questions at all. I should get me truck back today. They have had it since last Thursday. I told them to take their time and do it right.

velocity 02-23-2010, 08:35 AM Is there anyway that I can run my vin# and find out the "in sevice date". I looked inside the door but the stickers are not able to be read. I just recently found that the crankcase on my 03 was mysteriously getting fuller. I think its injector time.
lynn1130 02-23-2010, 10:25 AM JABS,
I would say that you lucked out. I can only tell you what the service people told me and then refer you to GMs Bulletin No.: 06-06-01-007B. This bulletin is posted on another thread on Diesel Place. Some dealers might let you slide by but like any other item you purchase, if you make mods before the warranty runs out, you take your chances.
got my truck back from the dealer yesterday all new injectors oil/fuel filter change and running like a top. Drove her around town for about 50 miles no more smoke and fuel mileage looks like it has improved instead if it going into the oil pan it actually gets burned what a concept..did not cost me a penny..I am pretty happy about this.
Is it ok to keep using Diesel Kleen in the fuel as the Service Writer told me I should run straight diesel with no additives? I did not want to argue with him but I think I will continue to use the Diesel Kleen anyway.
lynn1130 02-24-2010, 09:07 AM On the other hand the local shop that I use for all of my car/truck stuff recommended a diesel additive with every fuel up. He thinks it is good for everything in the top of the engine.

Interesting.... my truck is in right now for that too and I have been told the warranty will apply but I have to pay a $100.00 deductible.

Whom ever you spoke to at the dealership is wrong it states right in the special policy that it would be replaced for no cost to the customer. Tell your advisor to read the special policy a little closer! It states that at the bottom of special policy #04039c under "what we have done"
Seann 02-24-2010, 03:00 PM From everything I have read on here I will be ecstatic if it just cost me $100.00
DirtyMAX1422 02-24-2010, 03:22 PM Just putting it out there. $100.00 saving is a $100.00, better used for something else than the dealerships pocket, we all know they don't need it!

Very true
lynn1130 02-24-2010, 06:14 PM Mine was 0 including the diagnosis and oil and filter change because of fuel in the oil.
Did not cost me a dime..I picked up on Tuesday no charge and they even changed the oil/filter and new fuel filter although I had just changed all that a few days for I took it to the dealer. I would recommend you challenge the service writer and maybe print a few of these threads to take with you as a support. Call my service writer Peter Hindley in Tucson (Watson's Chevrolet) 520-292-1500 he was the best service writer I have ever dealt with at Watson's..Good luck

Seann 02-26-2010, 07:27 PM Grrrr  I am starting to get ticked... the truck went in on Feb 16 it was diagnoised as warrentyable injectors... they were supposed to wheel it into the shop this tuesday for the rebuild and the truck would be ready today... Well now they say the mechanic that was working on my truck is in the hospital and they hope he will be back on Monday to finish my truck......:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek ::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek ::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek ::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I am living out in the boonies... I need the truck to haul water, sewage, get groceries etc.
I was given a Ford F150 as a rental when mine went in last year.....
