Brad92 02-18-2010, 05:41 PM What you should really look for is the efficiency rating when it comes to speakers in addition to wattage, especially in your case. You will want atleast 90 dBs since you are going to run them with lower power than they can handle (head unit), and not some power hungry speakers, unless you are gonna amp them with enough power. Infinity, Polk and others make good speakers that are efficient, sound good, and don't hurt your wallet.
twoslo4five0 02-18-2010, 06:20 PM no amp here just trying to get some tunes out of my old blown speakers.any thing you know of with a low rms and a high sensitivity in the 6 and 3/4 right off the top of your head?theese rockfords are 89 db
Brad92 02-18-2010, 06:29 PM It will be easier to get 6 1/2 inch speakers instead of 6 3/4s. I would probably go with Infinity Reference 6 1/2s, they are 93 dB. I have Pioneer 6 1/2s in my truck that are 90 dB and are pretty loud for running off the head unit, I also attribute that to my Alpine which is the loudest head unit I have heard running these speakers. I think they are 50 watts rms.
twoslo4five0 02-18-2010, 06:49 PM so they 6.5 will fit were the 6.75 are without issues (dont mind drilling new holes) also what about my rears i have the 4x8s (i think) back there right now.
Brad92 02-18-2010, 07:21 PM 6 1/2s fit with no problems, thats what I have. You have 4x6s in the rear doors. I would get an adapter online, or make your own and run 5 1/4s.
nekkidhillbilly 02-19-2010, 07:25 PM i would run 6.5s comps and 4x6 plates

you have to drill holes other way the factory speaker is like a big spring clip
twoslo4five0 02-19-2010, 09:05 PM i would run 6.5s comps and 4x6 plates
what comps am i gonna be able to run of the head unit though?i though you really need a amp for thoose.help you guys are the experts recomend me some stuff to go listen to at the store.
Brad92 02-19-2010, 09:30 PM Yeah, don't do components with what you are trying to do. Like I said, Infinity Reference, Polk DB. They are pretty cheap and good quality. Looking at RMS Wattage is good, but like I said, in your case, efficiency is the thing to really look into.
twoslo4five0 02-19-2010, 09:44 PM so let break this down.with 22 watts rms what rms on the speakers should i be looking for and what Db am i looking for?
Brad92 02-19-2010, 10:16 PM It is not necessarily the wattage. The efficiency should be 90 decibels at the least, if not more. Even if you run 55W RMS, but have a high efficiency, they will sound great. A speaker with a lower efficiency and wattage will sound worse because it will not make the best use of what little power you are giving them. Lower efficiency speakers are power hogs (and usually cheaper quality), requiring more power to sound as good as better speakers. If you get some efficient higher wattage speaker, they will work well, but just have a higher potential. Such as these:

The efficiency on these is 93.4 dBs. For good bass, I would also recommend a 10 or 12 inch sub powered by atleast a small amp. It will give better sound quality and not just be used for the rattle factor (although you can do that if you want to :D).
twoslo4five0 02-19-2010, 10:57 PM thats was a great explanation.thanks.
for bass i have right now two infinity perfect 12's and a 400 watt (i belive) jbl amp.
Brad92 02-19-2010, 11:01 PM Then you are set on bass. ;) I would also consider Dynamat or another sound proofing mat, as my truck rattles with my speakers and sub.
twoslo4five0 02-19-2010, 11:17 PM i plan on it even if i wasnt putting bass in.i like noise outside the truck.
a few brands of amps and sub ive had in the past wonder if theyre speakers are any good.i was very happy with theyre amps and subs.

Brad92 02-19-2010, 11:38 PM I can't speak for Audiobahn and Planet Audio (other than they seem really low quality), but the Polk DB's are great. I put some in my uncle's Jeep. That is what I recommended before.
twoslo4five0 02-19-2010, 11:48 PM i used to run a planet 1000 d class 2 ohm to 2 jl 10w7s in a mustang :D
i had 3 audiobahn 12 in a honda.
the planet stuff is better though.that mustang was a convertable and i hit 149 db with 2 10s on the windsheild.pic.

theese are the exact same speakers and for some reason they are showing a diffrent sensitivity?

Brad92 02-21-2010, 01:44 PM All the other places I have checked, including Crutchfield and Infinity show a sensitivity of 93. I have known ebay to be wrong, especially with wattage. I was gonna buy an amp that said each channel was 250 watts rms, I went to the manufacturers website, and they said that was peak power, rms was only like 125 per channel. Just make sure you get the right model and double check that.
twoslo4five0 05-04-2010, 07:58 PM couldnt take it anymore so i picked up some new speakers today. 100 times better
