If he just tunes your truck and adds a switch without you buying the software package, then you'll have no control over the tire size adjustments etc, as you'll have to have him make any changes.

If your buying the software package and all. Then if you still don't understand. I would recommend going into the EFILive section and reading up.

Cliff Notes:

It's a computer inference program that lets you connect to your trucks computer, modify parameters within the software to adjust for power, tire size, etc..., then you "flash"( send the modifications into the computer) into the trucks computer.

DSP5 is a 5 tunes in one. Not 5 seperate tunes but a base tune and 4 tunes with only a few alter tables. So the 4 additional tunes will use most of the base tune and the tables it has in its tune section. The ones that alter are the most common ones used to build tunes. Then you have a rotary switch that you turn when you want to the different tunes. No stopping or turning things off. Just turn while running. The tuner if good can make the tunes as you wish. the tire size can be adjusted in the tune as you need but if you change tire size later then just have the tune modified for new tire size and uploaded. If your just getting the tune and switch and not the hardware then when you need to make changes you need to go back to that tuner since you will have paid for the $99 license on that flashscan for your truck. If you use someone elses then you may need to pay the $99 again. Of course the Flashscan offers commercial licenses which put it to unlimited to that specific ECM, PCM, or TCM. But all usually would charge the $99. But stay with the same tuner and it will be licensed on their Flashscan. I recommend you get a copy of the DSP5 tune so if you need to alter something you have the tune used at the time. Not possible to download a DSP5 of the ECM. Only single standard tunes can. So if the tuner quits or disappears you have something to still work with in the future. Also have a copy of your stock tune made too and make copies of all. You can put on your harddrive but i put copies on USB drive and or CDs too. Also before doing this you want to remove the Edge and also remove the Bullydog and unmarry it from the truck so you can sell it if you wish.

so if i decide to buy the efi setup later in time will i be ok or will i have to change a bunch of stuff i am new to this efi thing and would really like to have control, but i guess i will try it, what does the switch alter though, i want it to run like a striped ape when turned up but have a smoke tune and a meduim power tune

The switch alters voltage across two pins on the ECM. The DSP5 tune reads the voltage and switches to the correct tune choice.

If you refer to doing the EFILive and DSP5 tuning now and later purchase your own Flashscan V2 then there nothing you have to do other than possible updated to the latest EFILive software and hardware firmware. All easy to do. But you will not be able to download the DSP5 tune off the ECM. That is why I mention getting the stock tune and DSP5 tune backed up for future use. When you purchase the Flashscan V2 it comes with the ability to license 2 ECMs and 2 TCMs. If you need more then purchase them at $99 for additional ECm and TCM. But you will need to license to your Flashscan v2 when you try to flash the ECM. No license to read, code read, or log with. Only to flash the module with a tune. Anything else or still unsure on what has been said just ask.

You just have to have the tuner set it up as you wish for your tune.

I would have a copy of the stock tune if you had to return it back to stock for say warranty drivetrain and engine work. You will need the tuner do this for you if you need to take it in for that type of service. If you throw a code you can use any code reader and see what happened. if you get say only a P0700 that is the code the ECM has that indicates an issue with the transmission. So you may need to find a code reader that can read the TCM as well. Most autoparts stores can with their hardware.

To sum it up. I would recommend buying the whole package from someone on here.
