My Goal Is To Acheive Right At 500 Rwhp On My 06 Lly. I Have The Edge Juice W/***, Afe Intake, And A 4" Cat Back Exhaust Now.
Is This Acheivable With What I Have Or Do I Need Efi Live And Is This Power Even Possible W/ Stock 6 Alli?

500 RWHP is unlikely on a stock transmission.

1. ditch the juice with attitude
2. start saving for a tranny rebuild and torque converter.
3. EFI live is the end all for duramax programming.

Tranny Build, Lift Pump, and a Edge Evolution Race Dynoed 496rwhp. Just as an example.

just a word of advice, when you say you want 500hp, and then achieve it, you'll want more.

Hey Underlord,

I assume that was on level 7 on the edge? Was it your truck?

Thanks!

Like underlord said, save for a trans, and then lift pump and EFI Live, PPE Hot +2 or Edge Race. EFI Live can get you 530, the others typically dyno just under 500.

Tyler, what hp are you pushing with your setup?

Tyler@MPF

Should be right around 600. I have not gotten to a dyno with it yet.

if you dont have the money for a trans right away put a transgo jr in. i have been running a 500hp tune around 50k miles. trany tune will work wonders as well on making it survive

I agree Trans tuning is a big help in keeping the trans happy.

i have my shift points raised to 3600 because the engine makes less torque there, my shift times are modified slightly, all my defuel is turned off. changing the rpm did the best for my trans. i kept limping at 3600 into 5th gear and i raised it to 3750 just for that gear and now its good again. been like that for about 15k miles. i know my trans is on borrowed time but its treated me well i sure cant complain

Yes, that was on level 7, it was Chad's (http://www.alligatorperformance.com) truck

As in shift points? Not really much else you can do? I know Mike suggest not adjusting the shift timing.

Yea, exactly shift points help..But.. It isn't a patch for a built trans. :)

Yeah. I Had Already Expected The Tranny, Torque Convertor, Lift Pump, And Efi Live To Be The Answer. Now For The Next Question!

2. Anyone Have Any Figures On What Mike L.'s Going Rate For A Tranny/convertor Are Going For These Days For Thta Power?
3. Will I Need A Separate Tune For Towing My 30 Ft Tow Behind Toyhauler Or Can I Keep It On The Same Tune Without Worrying About It?

onebaddmaxxx
02-19-2010, 08:21 AM
id recommend a different tune for towing. i once had to pull our trailer and mini hoe back home with my truck and its 10k or so id say, i pulled it fine with no problem just had to watch egts as they got up there. and i also see you have a cat back exhaust, i personally would ditch the cat to help with egts

Sounds like you want a DSP5

bajabrent57
02-19-2010, 07:09 PM
i plan on getting rid of the kitty asap and an egr blocker as well.

by the way i havnt done enough research on it yet but, what exactly does the dsp5 do? its a tuning knob that turns 1 big tune down or up when needed correct? hence no need for two separate tunes or do you guys think i would be better off with two tunes?

onebaddmaxxx
02-19-2010, 11:24 PM
its a knob you pin into the ecm and sends different voltages to it to activate a certain tune. its not necessarily turning a big tune down or a small one up. most people have stock, fuel economy, tow, fast, race. i constantly find myself always tweaking on a tune or changing it out to another depending on what im doing that i dont find dsp suitable for me. but to each his own.

i dont want to throw around prices on open forum but my buddy just had mike put his stage 4 in and i can pm you a price if your interested.

seems like you want a dsp switch. most of the good tuners can hook you up.

YEAH, THAT WOULD B NICE. IM IN THE MARKET AND WONDERING WHAT US WEST COAST GUYS CAN EXPECT TO PAY! IS THIS WITH THE CONVERTOR TOO?

Yeah, I did 490 & 994 torque on Edge Race level 7 with my associated mods, on 33 x 13 R 20 Wheels and tires. Just for reference, my 12 second race tune just averaged 500 hp and 1000 ft lbs. over 4 runs.

I would say a DSP5 would be the best thing to get I got mine from Socal Diesel guy is really great to deal with , I havent worked with Nick but alot of people on here have and they are all happy with his work , Mcrat is good to

I have a confession to make but its probably not really going to do any justice since I never had my truck on a dyno so I can't post numbers. The only thing I do have is the 1/4mi slip which was a 14.3?? in 4 wheel high in 2006-07. I'll tell you what mods I used to have (back in 2006-07) and people will think how did your stock alli handle it lol. I used to have a banks six gun (claimed 120hp) as the fooler box with a diablo sport (claimed 120hp) handheld tuner stacked and on top of all that a stage two snow perf water/meth system (claimed 70-80hp). My stock alli never limped after numerous WOT's (up to 100mph+ sometimes) with all three mods maxxed out. How it didn't I dont know to this day lol. If you check out my sig you'll see a lot has changed since then lol. Not sure where I'm at power wise these days either. I still haven't had a chance to put it on the dyno anybody willing to let me make a pull or two free or cheap lol?

So, with all of this in mind and I end up at between 501-575 HP with mods, should I be looking at putting head studs on and other mods as well? From what I've heard and read, of course you can handle the power, but for how long? Suggestions?

On a LBZ, once you get the tranny built and you put in max effort tuning it's all a gamble. You'll crack a piston before you'll need headstuds.

Just a word of caution...my truck is just about back together...

It was apart because of a ticking noise, never smoked, then after a couple hundred miles with the ticking noise I get it into the dealer. Dealer first says valve cover gaskets are leaking then they call back and say its headgasket and they voided my warranty. So i take the truck to my dads buddy who owns a dealership 30 miles away and they confirm headgasket. So i trailer it to a local diesel repair shop and thats where it has been the last 2 and a half weeks. The heads had to be surfaced, they just found as they were putting it back together a cracked valve guide as well.(so now they are replacing the valve guide and valve) as well as the headgaskets.

My point to this long story is i was running the McRat 500hp tune, EFI Live, Mike L Stage 3 Trans with ML Converter. I never ran more than 30 psi boost. So I would be leary running 500 hp again on stock studs and definitely would not run 500hp on stock trans. Whether it seems fine or not, 10k miles down the road or so and I bet you start having problems. Just my 2 cents.

OK After all that being said did you beat on your truck all the time? That plays a big part in the truth to your story IMO.

Twister773

I honestly never beat on it. It may be hard to believe but its the truth. Maybe i got unlucky, But that is my experience.

Sounds good do you happen to know when on what day your truck was built and where? Thats a good thing to look into to see just how many more problem's could arise in your future. I've never had a problem with my LBZ but the LB7 has only been mine for a lil over a year now and we'll see if she decide's to either clean my checking account out or be a good girl lol.

09-10-2010, 06:04 PM
lol. Here is the information I have on it. It is still in the shop at the moment. For the most part i have had no problems. I had the rear axle/diff replaced at 16k cause it was leaking, intermediate steering shaft replaced, glow plug module reprogrammed, both front wheel bearings and hubs, pressure booster to pump and pressure booster to steering. All under warranty though.
