: Injectors or FPR or ???

Well a few months ago I started getting a surge at idle, I'll be setting at a light and all of a sudden the truck wants to pull forward and the brakes will barely hold it back. I had someone look at it with a tech 2 around that time and they tried to command rail pressure to the max and it was 2-3000 psi short. Also for the last 2 years or so it has taken kind of a long time to crank over..maybe 5-6 seconds usually.

Well this winter it has gotten much worse, and when its cold in the morning and sometimes when its hot it will crank for 20-30 seconds before starting. So lately I have been using my tuner to watch fuel pressure to see if it gets up to 1400psi when im cranking it. When it cranks for 20-30 seconds it wont make it to 1400psi until right before it starts. It does this when cold, but sometimes much worse than others, and when its hot sometimes it goes right to 1400 and fires right up other times it takes 20-30 seconds.

Also my balance rates are all around 3-4 in both neutral and drive.

I have no fuel smell in my oil and only the occasional white smoke on startup usually after these long cranking times, but none during idle and the truck runs great once its started. Mileage is about the same as always.

So what do you guys think? And sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to put out as much info as I could.

Have you tested the glow plugs?

You have one or more injectors with a high return rate and you also have a bad FPR.

Is there anything I can do to determine which injectors have a high return rate? Do you think changing the FPR would make a difference with the long cranking time?

Its alot of work to find out what injector or injectors that have a high return rate.

Your FPR is not the reason for long cranking from my experience.
