My speedometer just quit working the other day, it just sits at 0 and doesn't even move. I don't think the odometer works either. When it is fixed is the dealer able to add the kilometers/miles to the odometer that have not been registering or will it those be lost forever. Thanks

ThanksIf your buying a new unit the dealer can put the milage back but if you buy a used one and want the milage corrected it looks like it would cost around the $200 figure.

Maybe i should be more clear. If the dealer fixes the stepper motor is he able to know how many miles were driven and not logged on the odometer? Can these miles be added to the odometer by the dealer?

New stepper motors are only a few bucks apiece on the web. Buy enough for all the guages. They'll all go bad. Take out the cluster. Pop it apart. Rotate each needle gently CCW until it stops and mark the position to the face on a piece of tape. Twist off the needles CCW, lifting with a plactic fork helps. De-solder 4 pins on each motor using a de-solder tool. Replace with new ones, solder the 4 pins, and put the needles back on. Twist the needle CCW until the motor shaft stops and the needle reaches the tape mark. Remove the tape and pop the covers back together.

You're looking at an hour or two total depending on your de-soldering skills. I've found that first nipping off the ends extending beyond the solder joint helps.

Is there any way to know how many miles were driven with the odometer not working? Is the milage stored in the cluster or somewhere else on the vehicle and just displayed at the cluster?

Does anyone have a part number or link for the stepper motor. Mine is toast and would like to fix it and put in the LED lights.

There is a DIY guide in the DIY sub-forum. Go on Ebay and search "GM Stepper Motor"
