Hey guys, im new here. I just picked up a 98' Chev K2500HD ex-cab LB with the 6.5 and 4l80E. This is my first diesel and so Far I love it. I have a question regarding a turbo master. My wastegate solonoid is on the fritz and I dont want to fix it I want to improve it. My truck is stock except for a PMD cooler. Would it work useing a turbo master on the stock Computer programming? Would it be a good Idea? I believe the factory boost is 7 PSI. Would it mess anything up going to say 10 PSI? I searched and couldnt find what I needed. Thanks in advance! ):h

Unless you put a boost gauge and Pyrometer in it first, I would not go that way. The factory set up, when functioning properly, is the way to go if you do not plan on any other mods to the truck. If you have some plans, then start with exhaust and intake upgrades, then guages, then a reflash, then maybe a turbo master, and then an intercooler. Be carefull with the boost. ;)

Thats what I needed to know, Thanks. I want to do the exhaust, reflash and guages but that takes money.

If you have to do things on a budget. I ditto firefighter. Do exhaust first. This can't hurt anything with this mod alone....it will only improve without risk.
Then as money permits, get gauges.
The turbo master is inexpensive and comes with a spring for a stock computer.
Then you can start foolin with more boost and fuel, etc. but only after you have gauges so you know when to back off.

Brisk another thing to keep in mind, and correct me if i'm wrong here someone, if you run 10+ psi for more than 15 or 20 seconds won't the stock computer throw a code? Exhaust and gauges are a great idea but I know it can be pricy. If that vac pump goes right out on you soon and you had to get a turbo-master, i would suggest some kind of temporary boost gauge so you could monitor it. Just a thought.
The Turbo-Master is the best money that can be spent on the 6.5, on the bang for the buck scale, and it will throw a code with the stock computer if you, ummm turn it up as far as it will go.:D

I am going down this road now too Brent.. trust me... get the exhaust.. it was a night and day difference for my truck since the downpipe was so insanely crushed. If your truck is a light duty (VIN code "S") get the EGR "Mystery Gasket" (Search the forum on that for the part #) and take the intake off and clean it. While you are in there, grind out the webbing so your truck can breathe.
The best note of caution out there for these trucks:
Make no modifications that alter boost or fuel delivery without gauges.
Live it man.. it will help you to enjoy your new rig for a long time!

Can't you use a resistor in the MAP circuit or a 3 BAR MAP to keep the computer from throwing a code??????

Yes you can AFTER you get gauges installed cause the computer will have no way of knowing it needs to cut fuel back to help save the engine.

Thanks for the help guys. I went ahead and replaced the factory solonoid today and the truck runs alot better. I am just going to save up the money and do it all at once with a package like the one from SSDieselSupply.com. thanks again!
