Get the truck. I can't make mine overheat even TRYING to do it. This may all turn out to be bad fan clutches.

I get into the Las Vegas and Lake Havasu area pretty frequently. No tow but carrying roughly 1800 to 2000 lb. Some temps have been in the 118 degree area but have never had a engine temp go over 210 and that's been only in heavy Vegas traffic. 205 seems to be the normal op temp.

I went through the same worry when buying my lly. DONT WORRY!! Remember this is the net.. everyone with a problem is going to seek help here, because its a forum to help people fix there trucks. Do you know how many of us LLY owners read this every day and dont post because we dont have ANY problems. Im not going to come on here everyday and tell people "yep another day with no problems with my lly" But if i do ever have a problem i will be here typing as fast as i can(one finger at a time LOL). So i have 23000 mi on my LLY and the juice went on at 6000mi and NO PROBLEMS SO FAR!

I've towed across the rockies 4 times with about 11K in tow. I-70 and I-80. Never a problem and I push hard. I fall into haas-lly's group.

also best places to get Diesel fuel .

The Flying J on I-10 and 67th ave. seems to be the cheapest by about $0.15. Plus they will move alot of fuel. Kinda far for me, I'm in Tempe, but when I'm in the area I'll stop. The dealer I go to is Henry Brown in Mesa(used to be Sun). They have been good to me so far, but I remove all my goodies when I go in. I have not had any issues w/ the eng. or trans. so I don't know if thier diesel Techs are any good.

Don't worry about it! haaslly makes the point: the majority of LLY's are not experiencing overheating problems! :ro)

The overheating thread is directed towards a few that have experienced overheating towing heavy at high altitude at high RPM/boost. Something about their trucks is causing them to run hot, we're just trying to run it to ground for them. ;)

The Duramax/Allison is hands down the best light truck diesel combo out there IMHO. :exactly: JJ :)

Just got done pulling 7k lbs to Tenn and no problems, not once over 210 engine or 190 - 200 trans. Came home today 115 and no problems, I think the fan kicked on once. Not to worry except that interior temp with the black truck. Find a shade tree.

Buy it and represent it with pride..:thumb:

AWESOME TRUCK with the best engine tranny combo available. I agree with all of the statements above. I had what was thought to be a major overheating prob that turned out to be a bad fan clutch. If you can get the employee discount even better

It was 115 degrees here today, hot enough that people were dropping like fly's - the truck purrred like a kiiten, froze me out of the cab and the needle didn't budge.
No overheating here, well at lest not the truck, as far as I'm concerned HOW DOES ANYONE LIVE HERE!!!!!!

I tow here n Phx a lot and I try to over heat it going north on I-17. It will heat up but the fan comes on and you can watch it cool right back down. I tested mine last weekend pulling 10,000 pounds wide open heading north on 17 and it did GREAT. The only problem was my speed was getting a little to high for the road, that was a easy fix. If you will use it, do it. You will love it.

We don't have the extreme Arizona temperatures here in Oregon, but we do have the long hills of the Cascade mountain range and coastal mountain range. My 04 lly pulls a 10000 lb trailer and even in the summer I push 65 up the hills here. I have never got it to 210 (believe me after reading the heating issue I pushed the pedal very hard when pulling): the highest I ever got was 202-205. I was astounded when I heard some guys overheating pulling 1 to 2 tons behind the truck. I think alot of owners are like me, they read more here than they post.

Thanks for easeing my mind ,this forum is great. Now if I can get BEN at Brown and Brown Chevrolet in Mesa to return my phone calls and tell me where the truck is or when it will come in I'll be a happy man after 5 calls to him he has yet to return my calls it must be nice to be that swamped with new sales that you can't return calls for 6 days .when he took my deposit he said it was in transit to them,i wonder how long it takes to get from the plant to Arizona ? I went there and tryed to pay for the truck in full a day after i gave him the deposit over the phone on a visa ,but he wouldnt take the money because he didn't recieve the truck yet and said he couldn't do the paper work untill he had the truck .does this sound strange to anyone else ?

"does this sound strange to anyone else?"

OK, I'm not a lawyer but it may have more to do with legal implications. Technically you are not taking delivery of the vehicle, so your in-service date, warranty period, etc., would be off from the date you actually take delivery of the truck. Some states may have contractual recision clauses as well. Just JJ's opinion. ;) JJ :)

I drove from Tucson through Globe to Young last week end, lots of hills. Loaded at about 1800/2000 lbs. I ran 65-70 most of the time and 35-50 up the Deseret to Mountains scenic route to Young. The fan never came on once. On subject two when my dealer notified me my truck had been completed and awaiting shipment it arrived 2 days later. Luck or normal I don't know. Have fun with your new truck.

IRA51, Had my truck since Feb '05, 3000 miles on the truck, towed my 7500lb travel trailer 3 times, no overheating issues and no other issues with the truck. Last tow was coming up the Cajon Pass, pretty steep grade, outside temp was 90, a/c blowing in the truck and fan kicked on while coming up, temp did not go over the 210 mark. It is unfortunate some are having issues with the overheating, hopfully it is an easy fix (fan clutch) for them. Like posts above, I don't write to say I don't have overheating issues. Good Luck.

Best diesel prices that I have found - Phoenix area:

West side - Flying J $2.21.

East side - Speedy gas station, McClintock and Elliot (NW corner) $2.33.
- Under Contruction: Love's Truck Stop, 1-10 and Maricopa road.

Lost truck:

If Brown and Brown did a dealer trade on the truck you were trying to get, then it is not their fault if the trading dealer backed out. There is not much they can do till they have physical possession of the vehicle. If B & B originated the order, then contact Tim Brown, G/Mgr, and let him know you are unhappy. He has been an up front guy in his dealings with me.

Overheating:

Are you planning to tow heavy loads? It is not a problem unless you are towing heavy. It appears that there is also a luck factor in that not all trucks are having the problem.

East side: Shell station Gilbert/Warner $2.26.

overheating: In 2 weeks and 1200 miles my coolent temps haven't budged. Tranny temps do seem to vary with ambients. It approaches 200 cruising freeways in Phoenix, but tows my boat in the cooler mountains @175.

Good luck finding your truck.

No overheating issues here.....but Ive only had the truck for a little over a week! If it hasnt overheated with these temps weve had the past few days, I dont think it will........(knock on wood!)As far as gas, seems to be pretty hit & miss on the east side. I rarely see it below the price of premium, it's either the same price or about 10 to 12 cents more. Diesel fuel prices are a joke here.....-:t Hopefully the better gas mileage on the dmax will help offset that! :D
