My 2500 passenger side CV half shaft needs replaced. I have all 6 bolts out, however it seems to have rusted to the tube-shaft connector. I have aerokroiled it and pounded on it a little, but i don't want to overdo it and need to replace any bearings on the inner shaft. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on getting it off.

Also, alignment is a bit off, since the previous owner allowed the outer cv joint to go so long all the balls fell out (it's effectively disconnected from the wheel as a result). I also cut through the sway bar tie rod before undoing the shaft nut.

Also, my brakes are out (normal and emergency both), so any options that involve driving are not possible at this time...

Thanks!

Between the two flanges, drive a sharpened blade chisel in with a hammer. It takes quite a bit to break anything else but the flange loose. Certainly, you'd crack (break) the axle tube long before you'd damage a bearing.

Following your suggestion I went from the crowbar to a razor blade and tapped it inbetween all around the flange until I broke the blade. Next I used a chisel wedge (steeper angles than the crowbar) and leaned it slightly into the CV shaft side of the flange. A few whacks and it came free. Thanks!

Jack the front tire up and with the truck in 4wh drive spin the tire to break it free. If the other front tire and the rear tires are on the ground it will hold the diff from spinning

Bingo. It works.
