: Banks monster dual exhaust question
Icbal 02-15-2010, 10:23 PM Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the world of diesel mods and have a few quick questions about dual exhaust.
On the banks system, I see there is an option for no cat converter or cat converter. My truck has one, but if I get the one without it, can it be installed? Or is there problems from doing that?
Also, I tried looking for MBRP exhausts and couldn't find what I was looking for. I am looking for dual, 4" pipes. I'm not really going for that mega loud sound so that you can't hear over but I do want it to be louder than what it is stock. Is the banks the answer to my question or is MBRP better for me?
P.S.-If I am looking to blow smoke occasionally, will it be better to not have a cat converter?

You can absolutely install the kit w/o the cat, just order a turbo dp back system that fits your bed and cab configuration. The Banks dual kit is a nice fitting kit, one of the best imo. The pipes always line up, and the tips look very clean.
MBRP also makes a nice 4" dual kit in both turbo back and cat back. It is our most popular dual kit, and many folks on this site use them.
You will definitely get more smoke w/o a cat, and it will also sound a bit louder as well.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything.
Thanks,
Chad

Talk to Jeff Barker. He is the Banks power rep on here. Tell him you want the cat delete pipe with the system that you want. I would get the muffler delete pipe to, but that is my opinion. It is cheaper without the muffler also. I have the daul monster exhaust with the cat & muffler delete pipes. I love this system. It sounds awesome & looks nice!!!..
Icbal 02-16-2010, 09:37 AM Thanks Chad, I'll look into that.
CRASHNBURN-does the muffler delete make it sound a little louder? I have read reviews that the banks is too quiet at idle.
callie454 02-16-2010, 10:11 AM Muffler delete will make it a bit louder, but it sounds like you need to ditch the cat and muffler to get the noise you're looking for.

Not sure what truck you have, so I don't know if this is an apples to apples comparison, but I have a 2004 LLY with cat back Banks dual 4" with the Banks muffler. This system replaced the factory system and is very quiet from my vantage point in the cab with the windows up. No objectional drone. I can hear a slight up tick in the noise level at cruising speed. Barely noticeable though. I also hear a slightly throatier sound at idle right as I start the truck and if I walk past the end of the pipe.
If you are looking for a noisier sound, the Banks may be too quiet unless you delete the muffler.
Hope that helps some.

I think it sounds awesome.. I think if you want nice sound you need the cat delete pipe also.. It will lower your egts to..
The muffler delete pipe actually saves you money. Then you can order the cat delete pipe.. Just tell Jeff Barker at Banks what you are looking for he will hook you up...

Icbal 02-16-2010, 08:28 PM Thanks guys, I'll do that sometime.
Radiator started leaking fluid and bar stopp didn't fix it, slowed it a lot, but still leaking. So I think exhaust might be sometime further away than expected.
My truck is a 2002 2500hd duramax LB7 engine. short bed crew cab.
DSTRBD 02-17-2010, 07:19 PM You might want to start with a cat back kit, then buy the front pipe (cat delete) later if you feel you want more sound. MBRP makes these kits in aluminized or stainless depending on what you want. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.
