What things should I look for out of the LLY? I drove one last night and it sounded different than previous test drives. Just a general question that I'm sure some of the experts on this site can assist in answering. Thanks.
Looking to pull the trigger this month.

Sounded different in what way? Far more detail is needed on your part here to get any ideas going.
Sounds are tough to describe and get the other person to totally get it, so the more detail the better.

I don't know enough about them to give detail. Never owned one, but have driven a few over the years. I suppose the horror stories I've read on this forum may have planted the thought in my head that I was driving a "lemon" of a Duramax. Should probably go back to the threads supporting 99% of those that love their trucks and have had 0 problems with the LLY.
Thanks anyway, Christopher.

No problem. I love my truck and it has never had a single issue in the 15,000 miles it has been around. Even though I operate it well above stock power levels it has never skipped a beat nor do I expect it to. It's a quality built truck and I am not going to hesitate buying another when they come with the next major redesign.
If you have driven dmaxes before then perhaps you were not ready for the VVT turbo, and the different exhaust sound from it and the cat.
Don't hesitate to post ANY concerns you have on a dmax, no matter how small or trivial you believe them to be.
Take care and good luck!

I test drove a D/A a couple weeks ago. It had the bumper/grill covers in place. These caused the "fan clutch" to be excessively loud. With the covers removed it sounded normal (quiet).

Thanks, Guys.
I'm a proud new owner of a 2005 GMC Duramax w/Allison as of last night at 11pm. I'm going to post a new thread on the purchase (part of a group now, right?) soon as I can get my desk cleaned up and ready for the day ahead.
