Hey guys I am getting ready to purchase some wheels and tires to go on my 07 classic. I am going to go with the XD Hoss wheels 18x9 with 285x65-18 tires looking at either the cooper Zeon LTZ tires or if I go aggressive tread either nitto trail grapplers or Mickey T's MTZ.
My question to ya"ll is what backspacing and offset do I need to order. I have seen so many different offsets and backspacing on here. I am going level the truck outto clear the tire and wheel combo. If ya'll could shed a little lite on this I would be very greatfull. Thanks Allen

If you want the tires to stick out get -18 thats what i have. I will show you a picture. If you want them tucked in get a + offset

Do different wheel makers have different specs?
I am buying the 18x9 Moto Metal 959's and the only offset is -12 with a 5.76 backspace.
What does that mean?
Will the rims and tires stick way out?
I am buying Nitto Terra Grapplers, size 285/60R/18

Different wheel models have different specs for offset / backspacing. Double check those Moto 959 specs as I only found them in +12mm with 5.47" backspacing. Assuming the specs I found are correct, they will stick out further than stock but not as far as most aftermarket wheels.
Offset is the distance from the mounting surface and the center of the wheel in mm with + tucking the wheel in and - pushing the wheel out. Backspacing is the distance from the mounting surface to the innermost edge of the wheel. The published wheel width is between the inside edges of the wheel (tire bead surface) while the overall width of the wheel is typically 1" wider.
Using your 9" wide wheel as an example, the wheel actually measures about 10" wide. Again, assuming my specs are correct, the backspacing is half the width (5") plus the offset (12mm = 0.472") which equals the published 5.47"
Using the specs you found, which I believe to be incorrect, half the width (5") minus (because the offset is negative) the offset (12mm = 0.472") equals 4.53" backspacing which is nowhere near the published 5.76" you found.

Just checked again.
It is definitely -12mm.
Google freds tire. Moto Metal MO959 Chrome.
18x9 wheel has -12mm offset with a 5.47 backspace.
They offer three wheels in that style from what I see.
Thanks again for the explanation!

I didn't find wheel specs from Freds Tire but I have found 2 versions of the wheel, +12mm / 5.47"BS at 4 Wheel Parts and -12mm / 4.53"BS at Rimz One Online. -12mm offset is not 5.47" BS on a 9" wide wheel (it is on a 10" wide wheel) so be very clear about which one you want if buying from Freds Tire.
