I posted this yesterday in Ask the Tech, but didn't get a reply. What do you folks think?

I had my 2004 CC in the dealer last week for the steering rattle. They replaced the intermediate shaft.

I noticed this past weekend that when I make a sharp, rapid turn to the left the steering makes a grinding noise that feels like it is coming from the bottom of the steering wheel. Moving the steering wheel adjustment up or down does not seem to affect anything.

I'll take it back in to the dealer (what a PIA), but can any of you experts shed some light on what might have happened to cause this?

Thanks,

Bud

BUDTX, I have heard the grinding noise you described, mine seems to do it when i'm backing up and turning the wheel to the LEFT. I took mine in for the TSB for the shaft. I did not notice if it did it befor the TSB replacement so I will keep a better I on it now. Can't get to the dealer for a couple of weeks. But I will post back after I take it in

I had the exact same problem with mine about a month back. It has already had 2 shafts put in it and the sound always comes back. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced the steering gear. Seems fine now but only time will tell. Keep us posted on what they do for you.

I'm on the second shaft - still have the same sound you describe. Mine does it while going slow and turning left, like into a driveway.

Thanks for the replies. I'll post my results once I get my truck back in to the dealer in a few weeks.

I had the same problem you are describing. The dealer replaced the steering gear assembly. The part #listed on my service order is 26099875 GR KT REM. Works fine now. I have a 2005 D/A 2 wheel drive crewcab.
Hope this helps. Ted

Same here! Posted about it a while back in this thread:

http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32759

I still have not gone in yet, because I was waiting until I received that recall for the seat belts etc. I don't want to have to take all my crap off multiple times and only want to go in once. Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone heard about this recall?

Glad to hear someone finally had a service order with a fix other than the int. shaft. Thanks dieselted!

I complained of the same thing... the tech said it was because the stops where dry and he lubed them... doesn't make sense... We'll see if it's still there.
