before i bought a duramax a few years ago i was at a truck stop and i saw this device for diesels to get better mileage. it was small, maybe 1in round and 4 or 5 inches long. you put it inline with your fuel line. i dont remember the brand or the name of it, but it was something like p9000 or something like that. im almost positive that those are not the numbers because i googled them. i found a couple things on google that resemble them, but are way to big to be what im talking about. they sold them on the counter in a case that was locked. they sold for around $250 i beleive. does anyone know what this is that im talking about?

well kinda. but that is pretty much what i was looking for. after i learned that it is a fuel catalyst i was able to do a search for that and found 3 brands that were more similar to what i saw. Broquet, Prozone, Fuelcat were closer to the size. but im pretty sure they all do the same thing.
my next question is do these really work? are they worth the money or should i use an additive that does the same thing? there seems to be a fairly good size market for them so they must be worth something right?

Do a search here on Fitch. I believe I've saw acouple threads about them. Pretty much "snake oil".

I have a Fitch Fuel Catalyst. I believe it works. Not 3-5 mpg difference, but 1+ mpg. I don't know what it changes about the fuel, but my truck likes it. Call it snake oil or $300 confidence but you won't change my mind. What sold me was the atv/snowmobile crowd noticing a difference in fuel quality over a winter. Fuel will go bad. Gas, diesel doesn't matter. I think it oxidizes. Maybe this catalyst prevents the oxidation. I don't know. Here's Fitch's results:

I'm keeping mine. Call me fooled, snake oiled, whatever. It works.
