: Can I squeeze a 6.5 in a 2000+ Tahoe?

I'm a newbie to the Diesel Place. I have a dream, and my friends think I'm nuts--then I logged on this forum and found plenty of wackos like me!
My wife is driving me up the wall asking for a 2000+ Tahoe (new body style). We tow up to 5000#. However, she drives 80 miles/day for work and I am not interested in the poor gas mileage. I really like the power, torque, and fuel economy of a diesel, but Chev doesn't offer them anymore in the Tahoe. Anyway, I can't afford off the dealer lot. We haul kids more often than cargo, so the Tahoe is a must--not a pickup. And she can't park the Suburban, and it won't fit in the garage anyway.

So my dream is to convert a late model Tahoe to diesel. I thought nobody's ever done such a crazy thing, but I see on this site there's dudes cramming them into Toyotas! I'm a gearhead, and have no problem doing my own maintenance and some minor mods. So what the heck.

Anyway, can anybody offer advice on a conversion?
-Do I need to change the tranny?
-Rearend?
-Will it fit on the stock motor mounts?
Is this even possible? Where would I turn to for advice or info? If anybody's done it before, please direct me to the thread / forum that covers it. Thanks.

Is that the Late Late body style? if you settled for a 99-earlier Tahoe/Yukon, it would be a cinch.

I could be wrong, but wouldnt a Tahoe cost about the same as a shortbox crew cab? and by the time you do the diesel swap, you could probably just pay for the D/A combo.

Dont get me wrong, I love the idea!! but I am not sure its practical... certainly do-able though I would think.

There's some guy I read about who has put a Duramax in a new Suburban. Try a google search.

Sounds to me like a very practical solution would be a Blazer with a 6.2 or 6.5. Maybe that won't fly with the wife, but it'd be much easier. Might even find a good one that already has a diesel.

I think Putting a Cummins into it would be much easier, and you would have twice the power, and the Converstion would Prob cost you less, because you can find a first gen. Cummins quite Cheap. Then you could pull what every you wanted.
