: Wait to start light
GAH003 02-11-2010, 11:34 PM I may sound like a fool but I am a new owner of a 07 2500HD Diesel. Of course it did not come with the duramax supplement manual. Is there a light on the dash that I should wait for to go out before attempting to start the truck? It has started fine for me but I don't want to cause any damage to the glow plugs, etc.
BlkDmaxLBZ 02-12-2010, 12:19 AM There is yes, but it will not stay on for very long, even when it is cold. If you blink you will miss it, espicially in the summer mine will not even come on. The new diesel's are not like the old ones where the light would stay on for a long time.
jettech 02-12-2010, 05:57 AM x2 it's there, looks like a curly pigs tail. I don't know where you're at but in the summer you may never see it or it may come on for only a second or so. This time of year unless you're in a warm climate you should see it for little while before it goes out.
fund razor 02-12-2010, 06:35 AM FYI... I am a new owner too, and was able to download the diesel supplement and allison guide from this forum as a pdf. :)
GAH003 02-12-2010, 07:22 AM Thanks for the help. Any clue where about on the dash I should be looking for this light?

C duster 02-12-2010, 07:50 AM Top left in the cluster. I had mine for several months before I ever saw it.
GAH003 02-12-2010, 08:49 AM I found it and your right, it sure doesn't stay on long. Modern technology I guess. Thank you all for the help

leatherlungs496 03-01-2010, 02:30 PM The online link above for the manuals doesn't work.
8100 Power 03-01-2010, 02:51 PM Yep, summertime, you won't hardly ever see it come on.

it did when I posted it but you're right, now it goes to some goofy *** page
jimskyhigh 03-08-2010, 04:03 PM remember if the wait to start squiggly line stays on for more than a few seconds and up to 10 or more seconds it means you have a bad glow plug. It wont hurt to start it and run it but get it changed out ASAP..
DIRTNAP980 03-10-2010, 11:08 PM Is it supposed to come on when you initially turn the key to the run position? I have a 2006 LBZ and I have yet to see it come on in the 4 months I've owned it. It never got stupid cold this winter but it was in the single digits. It never hesitated to start either way. Is this normal or should I check the bulb in the panel?
8100 Power 03-10-2010, 11:22 PM Yes, you should see it for at least 3 seconds, especially where you live.
DIRTNAP980 03-10-2010, 11:29 PM Guess I'll be tearing the dash out tomorrow. I can't imagine that there's a problem with the plugs because like I said, it starts like a champ. Am I on the right track or could it be something else? Truck only has 21K on it.

Recall a few years ago for the Glow Plug Controller, did you ever get that done?
DIRTNAP980 03-11-2010, 11:25 AM I've only had the truck since November so I'm not sure if it was ever done. I'll check into it...thanks.
knaffie 03-11-2010, 12:11 PM Mine comes on for about 1-2 seconds when I turn the key on for dead cold starts if its below freezing. After its warmed, it doesn't come on at all.
DIRTNAP980 03-11-2010, 05:28 PM Dealer said today that the glow plug controller recall was already done. What else could it be?

Funny..I thought it looked a little like a pubic hair.
DIRTNAP980 03-13-2010, 11:15 PM The "illuminated pubic hair" mysteriously started working after I got it back from the dealership. It was in for an EGR replacement so I'm not sure why it started working now....I guess I won't complain.

They must have changed the location of the glow plug indicator..I seem to recall that mine (06), is on the upper left hand side.

It is, that is just a picture for what the indicator lamp looks like. That doesn't even look like a GM cluster, not even a old one.
