Just looking aty all these threads about new trucks and couldn't help but think what a great time to be a GM car salesman!!Never thought I'd say that!! I will have to say that I too have taken advantage of the GMS pricing. Just picked up my new Dually Friday. Nice to be rid of that '05 Dodge! With no mods, (YET), my new LLY would probably outrun and definitely out pull my Cummins CR -:t with several mods!!:grd:

Actually it is a $150, $100 from the dealer and 50 from GM. However, they are still making a certain percentage off the sale so they are still making money, but not as much as usual. My salesman said he needed to sell 2 or 3 vehicles to match what he used to be able make off of selling one. Though he did mention that his bread and butter used cars were way down.

Another new diesel owner here. i couldnt see spending 25 to 35 for a used truck when i could get a new one for 35K.

our sales lady said it was only 50$. i said yeah right, i'm sure you get bonuses for "qty" at the end of the month or qtr.

like the truck & the board so far. Hope i dont have the overheating problem when i get my camper & tow my boat or jeep at the same time.

As a GM Certified Sales Manager I can tell you that there is not a lot of money being made by the dealer on these sales. GMS is lower than invoice (what the dealer pays the factory). They (GM) does give us a 5% alowance, but only covers a small portion of what we lose. You can cry "poor old dealer" all you want, but I can tell you now that it SUCKS to be a new car or truck sales person right now...and GM does NOT pay the sales person one red cent on these transactions. They are telling us how to sell cars and at what price. This is a great deal for the consumer, but will only artificially depreciate used vehicle values. Every other dealer I have talked to absolutely hates this program because it is cutting into the dealers pockets...not GM's. Dealers are in business to make money selling vehicles, and the Manufacturer has now told us how to do it and for how much. Buy one while you can, but Duramaxes are rare as hens teeth right now.

I was on the road for about 6 hours today, and noticed several different GM dealer adds on the radio.
These dealers that claim only $150 or less is simply not telling the truth. One add said GMS price plus $1,000 more off the price, another one said GMS price and a guranteed $3500 for any driveable trade in. I am sure those dealers aren't selling for a loss, so if they can sale for $1,000 less then GM employee price and still make money, the dealers are still making plenty.

The extra $1000 is the rebate offered on whatever vehicle they were advertising. All consumers get the GMS price AND the rebates! As for the $3500 for any trade in...it's the same...they are using the rebate against the trade. It's so amazing to me that so many on this forum think that dealers are making money hand over foot. Most dealers are making good money, after all that's what we are business to do. Wear our hat once, and you'll see that profit is not a four letter word. But in today's competitive market, and a more educated buyer, large profits are pretty much a thing of the past.

Did I get ripped? I asked my dealer about the $3000 off after the GMS. He took me to the GM BuyPower webpage where we pulled GMS and underneath the price is stated, "after all incentives". He interpreted that as GMS was bottom line. I haven't signed yet but don't really want to stick the guy with the cap I ordered sans deposit ($2359) but I also don't like the thought that I paid over what it could have been.

Yes -- the 3000 off is ON TOP of the GMS.

notnsuv- what did you pay? i was quoted 38K for a extra cab, 2500 HD, LT, auto & with the 3K rebate total price was 35K. +/- 1000 depending on your options.

NOTNSUV .... The GMBuyPower price includes the $3,000 rebate incentive.

GMS is the price a GM employee would normally pay. This amount is less then the dealer invoice price (which is less than the MSRP, also known as the window sticker price). Ask the dealer to show or give you a copy of the dealer invoice. You will find a column of notations on the right side. One of the notations says GMS with an amount to the right. This is the GMS price.

So, you can buy the vehicle at the GMS price, less an additonal $3,000. The end result is the amount you will see on the GMBuyPower site and the amount posted on the windshield of the vehicle promoting the Employee Price sale (not to be confused with the window sticker).

Paid $29,912 + tax. '05 LLY/Allison, Reg. Cab, long bed, LS. Killer deal I'd say.

Not to pour gasoline on the fire in here..........and not to pick on anyone who has chosen auto sales as a way to earn income, but having purchased 8 new cars/trucks in the last 15 years I am not the least bit surprised at where we have gotten.

Dealers used to name the price and tell you to go scratch when they had something for sale and you didn't want to pay the price for it...... ....they would play the numbers game with the "let me go talk to my manager" ........:blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: story for hours........I unfortunately have no patience for this, never did.........my answer was always, "let's go sit down with your manager right now and hammer out the deal......I have 15 minutes then I am out of here"

I would sit with the manager, we would haggle 2 or 3 times back and forth, then it was either I take the deal or he takes the deal...........if neither one of us could agree I walked.

I can tell you that many times I would get a call a day or two later if I was still interested, many times my answer was "sorry, my new car/truck will be ready for pickup tomorrow"...........then they want to know what I paid, where did I go...........my answer was politely, " I paid what I wanted and the dealer was more than happy for my business"

I understand it's your livelihood, but consumers got screwed over for a long time, those days are gone for good..........especially since they know the spread on the MSRP to Cost now.......

Good Luck to you in your sales career, hope you can still earn a good standard of living,

Tony, you have a lot of valid points to make. However, try selling cars, even for a month, and you'll see another side of the story. Research has found that nearly 85% of the general population is still comfortable negoitiating a car deal. Is it the best way, depends on who you ask...the salesperson or the consumer. I believe that there were a lot of shady deals and unruley practices that went on in the past, but things, for the most part, have changed. The biggest gripe I have is the manufacturer (GM) is telling the dealer what to sell the vehicles for (employee pricing for everyone). This did two things that really hurt: 1. Profits for dealers went in the toilet...I mean big time! I haven't talked to a dealer in our region that had a good, profitable month, even selling tons of vehicles 2. It killed resale values on nearly everything.

This argument could go on forever and ever, but the best deal is the least the consumer will pay and the most the dealer can make:exactly:

BTW, I don't sale cars anymore...did for 10 years, but now I manage the inventory for our Chevy and GMC-Buick-Pontiac stores. I make a good living doing what I do, and I don't suspect that will change, because people still like to negotiate;)

My truck listed for $47,805- all the rebates that included a $500 rebate from GM for military, and since I am coming back from Iraq, TN has a no tax for military so, bottom line out the door was $36,800 with no tax was a great deal.

Was at local Ford dealer obtaining a Sponsorship for a NRA event and spend a little time with some of the sales staff. Ford to is selling at employee prices same as GM. They claim that Ford is subsidizing their sales commissions so they aren't hurting. Then they said they had spoken with the GM dealers sales people and the GM folks are making in the neighborhood of 100 bucks per sale. Interesting.
