I have seen the Helms Factory Service Manual mentioned in several posts. At the Helms website I got to what I think is the correct one for my truck:Part #:

GMT05CK8PU
2005 Silverado Sierra/Sierra Denali (CK8-Platform) Truck Service Manual Set

It is $135, I realize good information isn't cheap; but is that the correct 'street' price or should I be shopping somewhere else?

I'm totally new to diesels and while I only want to do my own lubes, oil and other fluid changes I'd like to know a little bit more about the mysterys of my Duramax, things like "why do I have two batteries?" ( Hey- I said I was a newbie!)

The Helm's are pricey, there a 5 volume Set, A to Z.

I have them, there great and worth the price IMO.

and when your not using them they do double duty as a stepstool! IIRC there are 5 volumes to the set, probably take up about 18" of shelf space. Well worth the bucks.

I got my first diesel 3 months ago. I only am doing the basic oil and lube on my truck. I say save the $135.00 and just look on this site. Thats what I did and someone always has an answer for you. It has saved me hundreds on oil changes and the rear diff gear oil change..

Just what I did and it is working. And I have no idea why there is 2 batteries in there but I know that I have to unhook both to change the fuel filter.

I don't unhook any batteries when I change the fuel filter.

I just ordered from Helms as well (not here yet). I couldn't find them any cheaper, even posted here looking for a cheaper source. I have seen the CD on E Bay, but prefer the paper manuals. I buy them for every vehicle I have purchased and they have paid for themselves every time.

IMHO

What they don't come on CD? I work for a 3PL that ship material for GM and we are send CD'S out he in Canada. I will need to pick-up a set once I get my 3500 at the end of the month.

Soon to be a Newbie

It's too complicated to unhook the batteries when changing the fuel filters (factory and 2 micron aftermarket filter): thats why I don't disconnect them either!
