: Water/methanol Injection
dewhart 06-20-2005, 02:30 PM Has anybody used the Boost Cooler system on their D/A? This system claims to lower EGTs and gives additional +60 HP and +106 lb/ft of torque. It injects water mist and methanol into the air intake at 220 psi. Water mist cools and methanol is added fuel.
Coments please!

bubba 06-23-2005, 02:12 AM HI GUY! I JUST RECEIVED MY BOOST COOLER 11 KIT-I AM INSTALLING IT THIS WEEKEND ALONG WITH A BANKS SIX GUN + SPEED LOADER KIT. I AM RETIRING MY PREDATOR TUNER-LOTS OF POWER BUT TOO MUCH EXH TEMP!!I LET YOU KNOW HOW MINE WORKS-I AM HEADING OUT ON A BIG FISHING TRIP ON MONDAY.):h SEE YA. BUBBA JIM
Morse 07-10-2005, 12:27 PM I'm anxous to see your results.. Where did you find your best deal?? Thanks..
Los Lobos 07-13-2005, 01:36 AM I use the Super Diesel kit. At full throttle I am seeing a 300 degree reduction in temps. 1500 vs 1800+.

have you dynoed with and without the system to see the gains.
Los Lobos 07-13-2005, 11:40 AM I have seen anywhere from 25-60 extra rwhp depending on the set up and mix I am running at the time.
motovet 07-13-2005, 08:41 PM Ah...a question I forgot to ask ya. What was the difference on the dyno with the program and water/meth only?
Max Payne 07-13-2005, 08:51 PM IIRC, Karl only did #2+ N2O+ WM on the first (the one that made me shat my pants), then #2+ N2O, then #2 only. I don't recall any #2+ WM runs that day...

25-30rwhp from previous dyno with different (lower) WM%. The lower EGT's is the main bonus, but you felt the extra umph on the road runs.
motovet 07-14-2005, 03:09 AM Big boost cooling with added horsepower is a good combination. The extra boost can definately be felt. Hope to have mine in for the trip to Montana.
chaseum 07-14-2005, 02:16 PM Please let us know how long the water/meth lasts. I am just about to buy a "snow" water/meth kit.

Time can vary due to your lead foot and all other driving conditions you may encounter. Only is on over 18lbs. of boost.

Diesel Power 07-15-2005, 03:15 AM i was quite surprised today. my buddy installed one on a customers truck, running 50/50 and he got 85horse on a stock truck. they got 50 horse with the edge/attitude on 5. i don't know if i'd run 50/50 but they had it adjusted so it didn't ping at all. they ran 2 nozzles, but i know they weren't both 625's..
fredw 07-16-2005, 06:56 AM can you find out what they are .625 or what, and what hp and boost his are running at, trying to find the best rate with no ping as well

motovet 07-18-2005, 08:20 PM I saw two Snow kits on other trucks and ran my SD kit in Montana this weekend. Experienced both......get Mikes. Two and a half gallons are gone in approx. 6 minutes at full tilt...I need a bigger tank.
fredw 07-18-2005, 10:21 PM are you seeing any pinging with higher hp tunes, with a 50/50 mix or less with a weaker mix, i was told buy another member running the varable water mix from snows is a great concept, fill me in with more details, thanks

Was that towing or raceing? That's my dilema with W/M, finding a tank that will last for a full trip (one way) not for raceing but for pulling long grades
fredw 07-19-2005, 12:14 AM what i plan to do next is tie into the trailerwater holding tank, 50 gallons should do for a long trip;)

Deadeye 07-19-2005, 12:22 PM IIRC, Karl only did #2+ N2O+ WM on the first (the one that made me shat my pants), then #2+ N2O, then #2 only. I don't recall any #2+ WM runs that day...
N2O + WM is a great way to bust an engine. H2O does not compress. too much in a cyl, esp with N2O, will caus a huge rattle at high speed. Of course, with N2O, it ain't water, it's ice.
WM is fine in reasonable amounts w/o N2O and, if you have a large tank, it will be useful on-road when climbing or when boost/egt rises. the kick-on can be changed by modifying the Hobbs psi setting or buy using a manual momentary switch. since alcohol evaporates fairly fast, best to keep it in a sealed tank. 50/50 WM is ok for short shots but normal, extend use probly less is safer. At a $tealer I saw a blown engine the tech tried to start by injecting ethanol ( not even as wicked as methanol !). basicly, alcohol fuel ignites when imediately entered into a hot diesel cylinder, prior to the piston reaching the top of rotation. A little is not bad, too much is a disaster.
ok, enough. Since we got $tealers reading this website I will not state this is personal experience. It is personal knowledge, however. . . . .
motovet 07-19-2005, 02:25 PM The 2.5 gallons lasted about 6 minutes while towing under full load on a steep grade. During the DP pull off I used about a quarter tank...but that was 50/50 at full throttle, Extreme mode, 10/k on a 6% grade for 1 mile. The variable controller may have it's benefits, though the Snow equiped trucks had the same pinging issues on hard applications as I did. Guess I just think the SD kit was cleaner with better fittings, as the Snow equiped rigs had some issues there.
KTDURAMAX 07-26-2005, 03:37 PM I hope this isn't a stupid question, but why don't they have a "exhaust manifold injector system" to cool the exhaust gases going to the turbo. I know too much water can damage the turbo, but what about just the slightest mist?
KTDURAMAX 07-27-2005, 04:52 PM MOTOVET,
So are the claims on EGT reduction accurate? I want the system for towing 15,000 lbs up long 6% grades. Not for racing or pulling. Is this the way to go? I was disappointed when my EGT's were still 1400* under full throttle pulling 6% grades after my BANKS exhaust, It slowed down the time it took to get there, but wasn't worth the money spent IMO....
KTDURAMAX 07-27-2005, 05:14 PM 1 more question.... :help:
can you just use STRAIGHT water, or do you have to add methenol?
Super Diesel 07-28-2005, 12:23 AM I'll step in on this one. The water doen't cool nearly as well as the W/M mix does. The Methonol is what gives the cooling and the power to gether. DON'T EVER RUN STRAIGHT METHONOL!!! Unless you have a spare motor in the garage. Melt down WILL occure. I saw only about a 15-20 hp gain with water (probably from the raised compression the water gives) and a drop in EGTs of about 100deg with water only. 50/50 gives the best (safe) results in the cooling and power department. Ever seen a Top Alcohol car run? The intake is totally iced over when running the methonol.
motovet 07-28-2005, 02:10 AM I have seen at least a 300* drop with the 50/50 mix and running way more power than needed while towing. When I ran about a 30/70 mix at a more modest power level it was around a 200* drop. The added power is a big plus at the same time the cooling kicks in.
KTDURAMAX 07-28-2005, 10:21 AM Thanks guys!!!
KTDURAMAX 07-28-2005, 01:40 PM OK,
I am going for it, talked to Michael and looking forward to having :cool2: EGT's...........Will have results in after Labor Day...:grd:
