Any of you out there running 35's and have had your ring and pinions upgraded? My truck is currently in the shop getting a 6" CST and 35 on 20's. I like the stock power and want to regear to get as close as possible to stock, but I am not sure if 4.27's or 4.56's is the best match. Any suggestion? It's pretty much a daily driver but I still want decent milage and towing capability. Thanks for your input.

What are you lookin at as far as price goes to have that done?
Someone on the forum put a calculator down to figure that out but i cant find it......... hopefully they will chime in and give you the right answer.... I think its the 4.56 though.

about $1500 with a 1 yr/12,000 mile waranty. I have seen many of the gas powered trucks go to the 4.56 with the 35's so I am wondering how much is lost. They come with 4.10 stock. That's why I am thinking the 4.27 to maintain torque.

Your not towing heavy are ya? I would go with a SMALL tune. It will get you back to stock feel ect. JMO

Thanks for the input everyone.....my difficulty has been in calculating the actual tire height. The new gear ratio should just simply be the old gear ratio multiplied by the ratio of the new tire diameter to the old diameter. The metric size calculator gives a height of 30.5", but my tape measure says different (29.5). Using the metric calculator I get an gear ratio of 4.33 and the tape measure method gives a 4.47. Both of these are in between the 4.27 and the 4.56.....so I was hoping to get some real life input (who got what and if they were happy with the setup). Thanks again.

I did 4.10s with my lift. I paid about $1200 and they did it while my front diff was out for the lift. I am glad I did it. I and the driveline guy were unable to locate anything in the 4.25-4.40 ratio range for our trucks. I went with 4.10 because I didn't want to be too steep with the 4.56s.

Good Luck,
Mike

mwgasman,

After the lift and re-gear did you notice any difference from before? I will be going to 35's soon and am wondering the same. If I did re-gear I would probably do 4.10. I've heard people say everythng from - it was horrible without a regear - to - I didn't even notice it - and everything in between. Hard to figure what it will really be like from the posts I've seen.

I have an older truck (84) with 4.56's and 35's. My trans is a TH400 so I dont have an overdrive. 4.56's would be to much ! I really need 38's ..........

I went from 285/70-17 with 3.73 to 35s with 4.10. The truck feels about the same as it did before ( acceleration ). IIRC the change I did should put me back to where I was before the lift. I haven't ridden in a Duramax with 35s and 3.73s, so I really have nothing to compare it to. My brother has the same truck as me but with an 8.1 and 4.10s stock. He also has 35s and a lift but he left the 4.10s in. He says his truck feels much slower. I don't know what to think, except that we were about neck and neck when we were both bone stock. I can SMOKE his a$$ but that has nothing to do with the lift and gears:D . Like I alsways say, THERE IS NO PROBLEM ON THE TRUCK THAT CAN"T BE FIXED WITH MONEY.

Good Luck,
Mike
