: Purple Ice in the LLY

I bought 2 bottles of Royal Purple "Ice" from Summit racing. I added Purple ice to my radiator last Friday. I drained about 2 gallons out of the radiator and added the recommended dosage of purple ice(1 oz per quart of coolant capactiy) I wanted be sure the Ice got properly circulated in the cooling system. Then I started up the engine and added the coolant that I drained (filtered of course).

Went on a fishing trip with my dad on Saturday and Sunday. We NEVER saw coolant temps(on the attitude) over 198*, air temp was about 80-81* doing about 70-72mph on the interstate pulling my 18' Tracker deep V boat(3000lbs approx.). Temps would spike at 198* (when climbing a long grade)then quickly drop to 196* or 194*. Previously my coolant temps would easily climb to over 202* and hold, with this boat on the same road and near the same temps. My gains were what Royal Purple claims for street vehicles. It definately won't cure the guys that are overheating and -:t coolant. I figured that this stuff can't hurt and is worth a try because in adds lubricity and stops corrosion too.

When I load up the gooseneck in a couple weeks we'll see what happens. My coolant temps with that hooked up, previously were 208*-212* in 80-82* weather.

Never used it in my Diesel, but use in my 98 T/A LS1 and got the the temp down 5 or 6* as well. Of course I only run Royal Purple in that car, oil, trans, coolant, rear end. As soon as my Dad's D-max getts good and broke in 25,000 miles or so we are gtoing start using it on it as well, at least the oil.

Just checked their website. Looks interesting. 28 F less temp when used with water only (comparable to water and clycol).
For the guys with overheating worth a try pure with water and for others with glycol (for the winter).

Even in 105 degree weather pulling Cajon pass, my truck never gets over 200 degrees, and that's with factory coolant.

Why go to the expense of Purple Ice? I DO use it in my sand rail though.....

Well I know yesterday I was pulling my flatbed with a 8k Duramax on the trailer, (coming home from a truck pull,) I hit 217 degrees accellerating on a slight hill. 90 some degree weather, a/c cranked and my temp was getting up there, so I may be looking into a product like this.

Just a tad outside, but check the cooling threads on the LLY engine section.
This is probably the better solution for droping temps for all of us.

I run it in my LB7 and it works great.

I ran it and it does nothing for a oheating truck , It likley will drop temps slightly but will not cure any oheat problem , a temp drop as you have indicated is not worth the $$ purple Ice cost as a temp drop of a few degress will happen on any given day for a million reasons on its own. IMHO

What does the royal purple do to the cooling system to keep it cooler?

I use to use a little joy dish soap for a wetting agent in my stock car, probly not as good as this stuff!
