Definitely good. Worth every penny. Especially if you have a skid plate &/or do oil analysis.

I have one an love it to. Only thing is you give up the drain plug magnet. Buy an oil filter magnet which works better anyway. These are magnets built into a little blanket that sticks to the side of the oil filter.

Is anyone running one of these with the 6.0 gasser? Site says the 6.0 needs adapter, but my drain is pretty close to the exhaust pipe - will it fit between and still have enough room to access the nipple?

If you check the fumoto site and select under Chevy for the 6.0. There is a specific warning about fitment on 2500HD(among others) what that would mean for my 1500HD I dunno...

Here's the warning, but does anyone run one a a 6.0 that can say "use adapter / don't use adapter / it works / it doesn't"?

Do a search on filtermag. Look at the second thread in the list that comes up. There is a link in there to the item on Kennedy's site.

Get a 12 point socket that is slightly smaller than your drain plug and tap it on slowly with a hammer, I've done this before and it's worked every time.

Another point of view.....If you don't have a skid plate you will find that changing the oil is simple WITHOUT the fomoto valve. The drain plug is positioned so that the draining oil falls directly into your change pan and does not fall on any of the cross members of the frame. It's one of the easiest vehicles for oil changes for that reason. Even the oil filter is positioned just right so that the oil falls right into the pan without ending up on one of the cross-members. Because of the height of the fomoto there is a chance that it could be ripped off of the oil pan while off-roading and you loose the magnet which can be valuable in deciding whether there is an excess of iron particles in the oil. I would suggest that you do your first oil change without the fomoto and judge for yourself whether you need it.

I can tell from experience, changing oil with the fumoto valve/nipple is much easier and cleaner than having to pull the plug. I also put a rubber "vacuum hose" plug over the nipple to keep it clean. Works pretty well - doesn't get nicked when off-roading (I have skid plates), and if you're really anal, you can get a rubber tube to direct it into a collection bucket so the oil doesn't splash.

Maybe if we LOWER the fomoto, then we won't rip it off.

... and you loose the magnet which can be valuable in deciding whether there is an excess of iron particles in the oil.

How many iron particles are an Excess?

I would suggest that you do your first oil change without the fomoto...

Where-as, GM does not deliver these vehicles With a fomoto, you WILL, There-fore, do your first oil change Without the fomoto.

How about if you just Want One ? :grd:

I put one w/ the nipple on mine the first oil change, can't wait to try it!

Since I have a 2wd I was a little worried about hitting something and losing oil but after looking at it installed I don't think it is an issue. If you do actually knock it off I think there will be considerable damage to the underside too, just my .02 though.

I don't have the rear skid plate, but do have the fumoto. Makes life real simple. Put the pan under under the valve, open the valve, remove the front skid plate, lube the fittings, come back remove the oil filter, replace the oil filter, put the skid plate back on, close the fumoto, fill the engine and less than 30mins you're good to go.

Real benefit is starting the drain takes seconds, you never drop the plug in the hot oil and it doesn't run down your arm as you're pulling the plug. Well worth it in my book.

Will be installing mine this weekend, after 5 oil changes with oil all over the place, this will be welcome change. Looks like this item will rank lower than some of the other mods due to its relative unuse. VR straps are still on the top of the list, used daily with no complaints. See post #27 for info.

I am using FEMCO (compact version, have 4 x 4) and I am very happy with the product. Comes complete with drain hose and dust cup. Machined from solid brass, worth my money.

Can one of you guys who has the valve with the nipple on the end like HOOT give me a length measurement from the oil pan to the end of the nipple? On my 6.0L the drain plug is very close to the exhaust pipe and I am not sure I'd be able to get a hose on the valve.

Also, just thought of something - can someone also give a measurement of the overall length of the valve with nipple - uninstalled? I might not be able to get the stinking vavle installed with the exhaust that close.

The only problem with the fumoto is its sheer size - and the chance to rip it of driving over rocks... The compact version of the femco is only 1/4 inch deep and has a brass cover over it. Draining the oil is little more time consuming than fumoto because the drain hose has to be screwed on to allow flow of oil.

I hate to tell ya, but your screwed. I could not get one to work on my old 01 6.0 hd gasser. Exhaust pipe was to close!! Well , I think that I got it installed but it made matters worse with directed oil right at the pipe. Sucks I know. All the more reason to get a dmax:ro)

I have the Femco too and it works great and built really well.

I have had 2 (2 oil drain holes on pan) on my big truck's oil pan for about 8 years now with no problems and it works great.

And the comments about the Femco being a much smaller profile drain plug are true, it dosen't stick out any more then the regular drain plug.
