I'm trading up the old lb7 to a newer duramax. I'm having trouble deciding between an 06 lly and a 07 lbz. I understand there wasn't much difference between the motors. I really the lly I'm looking at, but I don't want a motor with as much trouble as I had with my lb7. Both trucks have about the same amount of miles, bout 85,000. What would be the better truck?

Probably about the same. About the only real difference is that the LBZ has more hp & tq in its programming.

They are mechanically identical. Just a slightly different tune on the ECM. The 06 LLY has all the LBZ upgrades from the 05 LLY.

I would go with the truck that is cheaper $ per options if they have the same miles.

Thats what i've been told. Several people have told me if you up grade the 06 lly to the lbz tune it will run the same. The 06 is loaded up with more options then the 07 is. Was there any common problems with the 06 llys like there was with the lb7s?

Some LLYs have an overheat issue but there is a fix for that. Injector change out will be easier than the LB7. Yes an 06 LLY with Bosch ECM can run a LBZ tune using EFILive. I think a dealer can change one to an LBZ tune too but i do not for sure on that.

The overheat issues were in the 04.5-05 LLY's. The 06 doesn't have those issues.
