Hi, I'm looking to put a 4" exhaust on my truck. I just got an '05 Silverado CC D/A long bed 4x4. I'm been looking here at all the different manufacturer's and my head is spinning with all the diferent types, sizes, and starting points to replace stuff.

I'm 99% sure I'll get an aluminized 4" system. Just wondering about the reasons/benefits of going all the way to the turbo or just the downpipe or just a cat back. And also which is the quietest. I'm doing it more because I was also going to get an Edge Juice w/Attitude. I want to see just how much mpg I can squeeze out of this truck.

I picked it up yesterday and drove it home from the dealership. Today it has just over 300 miles on it and I clicked on the truck's computer and it said 18.8 mpg. I was thrilled after reading some of the horror stories on here about on 12-14 initially. It was a lot of highway driving, but I'm still happy. I'd really love to be able and brag here about getting around 23 mpg by next year.

Anyway, any help with the exhaust questions is greatly appreciated. This web site is truly a great source of info as this is my first diesel vehicle.

I just got an 05 also. I picked up a banks 4" monster exhaust catback from my buddy. He had it on an 04 for a few months and then traded the truck in so it was just sitting around and he gave me a good deal on it. After spending a little time reading here I decided to order a 4" front pipe aka cat delete for it. I cant tell you much about the turbo back system other than it looks like it might be a pain in the ass to install. The high hp guys probably have a better idea if a down pipe is needed or if 4" from the front pipe back will work. The 4" banks cat back had no seat of the pants difference to me and is really quiet. Just a little more rumble at idle and low RPM. I dont have the front pipe yet but you can search on here and get an idea of the differences. Good luck.

The 4" system will gain you 8- 10 RwHp. If your buying it only for Hp on a stock truck save your money. You need to look at everything it will do before it's really worth the cost. Do not get me wrong as far as I'm concerned they are the only way to go. A good 4" cat back will lower EGT's 100- 150 degrees, reduce back pressure, improve turbo response time and add a little power. The 4" down pipe will give you a little better turbo response if you have a truck with a cat to begin with. Take a look at our web site and you can see our 4" stainless steel kits. The cat back is less than $500. If you plan on stepping the power up above stock they are pretty much a must have part of the upgrade.
