Had a u-joint fail and messed up the end of my aluminum driveshaft. Its on a 2001 Chevy 2500 ECSB and the driveshaft measures 68 1/4 inches. Any ideas on repairing this driveshaft or buying another driveshaft somewhere? Also, is there a difference between the 1410 and 1415 u-joints?

No local driveline shop near you? They should just be able to replace the weld yoke, or replace the aluminum shaft with a steel one. Either repair should be somewhere under $300

1415 series U-joints are something like .005" narrower lock up dimension than 1410 series, but the cap diameter is the same. So if you put a 1410 series joint in place of a 1415 series, it may or may not be tight and bind, even though in theory it definitely should be to tight.

The easiest way to tell whether you have a 1410 or 1415 series drive shaft is look at the tag on the drive shaft. If it was made by Dana-Spicer, it will be 1410 series, If it was made by AAM it will be 1415 series. No tag left of the driveshaft? Take a close look at the slip yoke, you may even have to wire brush it a bit if its rusty, but there will be a stamping on the Slip yoke somewhere near or on the ears with a logo of which ever manufacturer built it.

I have spicer on the driveshaft so that should be a 1410 then.

Local shop might be able to do it but I would like to keep the aluminum driveshaft if possible and they can't do aluminum.

If they are Dana-spicer distributor they should be able to get you a complete shaft if you give them that part number off the tag on the Driveshaft. If you want to post the number i can tell you if its in stock at Dana's warehouse, if it is any Dana distributor in your area should be able to get it for you in a day or 2. Or just do a credit card sale over the phone and have it dropped shipped to you for that matter. The warehouse is in crossvile TN, and it usually takes 3 days for me to get stuff shipped up to NY via UPS ground.

I have a GM part number 15109393 that I got at the dealership based upon the last 8 digits of my VIN.

On the driveshaft is an old sticker that is no longer able to be read. On the rear of the driveshaft is stamped:

Spicer
F3-28-619
LL 05

The only way for a warehouse distributor to look up stuff with an OE number is to call spicer tech and have them cross it over. That number on the weld yoke is not a part number, it resembles a part number for a weld yoke, but is not a part number cataloged as a weld yoke. Sounds stupid, but there is probably a similiar number on the slip yoke, looks like a part number, but isn't
