New to the Duramax.. Just wondering what the max boost is for a OEM Turbo? Also wondering what will be a safe level to run my boost level with mods I have so far listed below with out doing damage ..

Thanks,

32-34 pounds is enough. Holding anything after that isn't down your turbo any good.

Hey congrats on your purchase of the Dmax! I think you will do head gasket damage before you will experience turbo damage. I have run around 40-45 w/o issues on my LLY using basically the same turbo you have from the LBZ, then I hit 58psi when the head gaskets let go. My LBZ runs 40-42 during drag passes all the time. Knock on wood, no issues w/the turbo or gaskets yet to report. I have several customers running similar setups, but dont abuse them as bad and as often as I do:eek: LOL. Now, Im not saying these are OK to run, but I am just letting you know the breaking point as you asked :).

Thanks 403DMAX for the info.. I was wondering what is the highest RPM you have seen? Ive seen 4100 by accident.. whats a safe RPM to go by?

WOWWWWW! its my understanding that anything over 36 psi on a stock turbo is just hot nasty air, not to mention that spinnin it to 40+psi is running on borrowed time. Some may be able to take it, but is it worth the risk?

You are correct, once you get beyond a certain point, you do exceed the volumetric efficiency. Meaning it no longer produces any benefits by creating more boost. It just becomes hotter and hotter air. I have combat this by trying the different tubo and installing the bigger intercooler. I must admit though. The truck was getting faster and faster till the head gaskets let go. I was pushing it expecting the worst. RPM wise, I think i hit around 4000-4300, Im not really sure. I was hoping the governed rpm would keep that in check. But hey, thats what racing is all about, right!

so a guess its safe to say an LMM can with stand no more than 40 psi before the head gasket let go or head bolts stretch
