: Help Cooolant everywhere 01 dmax
Jazman 06-19-2005, 11:53 AM So I went out to my truck this Morning and there was coolant all over my driveway. a few days ago my low coolant light came on so I waited till the next day and filled it to the line and put the cap on tight. This morning i go out and there is 3 times as much dexcool in my driveway as i put in but the resivoir is still 3/4 full. I do not want to drive it until i know it wont overheat in the 95 degree weather here today. My only thought is the cap may not be working, handling the preasure. Any help would be apreciated.
Mackin 06-19-2005, 12:13 PM If your building excessive pressure and it's coming from the coolant reservoir it is probably a head gasket or injector cup seal.Have you had any injector work done lately? Some have diagnosed as a bad T-stat but most end up with the latter.
I'm only implying this as you mentioned the cap, assuming it's that cap on the coolant tank,as this is the source of the puddle passenger side.
There are testers available to check coolant for presence of exhaust emissions as such as Nox and Co.Your dealer should be able to perform this test
Jazman 06-19-2005, 02:29 PM Thanks mackin, I will prob have to bring it in for tests this week.
chevy_9465 06-19-2005, 03:09 PM The day we brought my truck home i took it for a drive and come back in and popped the hood just lookin around and their was antifreeze every where, the dealer had put on a new head gasket so we were hoping it wasnt the other side but turns out all it needed was a new o ring in a small metal hose at the front of the engine, not sure what its called but u never know, might be worth checkin out
Jazman 06-19-2005, 03:58 PM Apreciate it, i am have a date with a flashlight and a creeper when i get home

Jazman 06-19-2005, 07:50 PM OK so luckily I got off early enough its still a whee light out. I went ahead and popped the cap to fill the coolant. The system released preasure and i out in about 1/6 of a bottle. I then let the truck sit for about an hour. Nothing. I went ahead and started it up and let it run idle for about 15 min, No low coolant light but the resivoir is now about a third of the way up past the fill line. I shut down, Still no leaks. I will see in the morning though.
I cheked the plug, but didnt really know what I was looking for. It was dry.. I also went ahead and put in for my vin work on here to see if my injectors have been worked on. I will keep an update about morning.
Thanks
duramaxdiesel 06-19-2005, 08:04 PM I have the same problem you speak of right now. Mine is in the dealers tech bay having the water pump changed. I should get it back Monday am.
same thing happened to me a couple months back. it was the water pump, which the dealer replaced under the 100k engine warranty, minus a $100 deductible.

Jazman 06-20-2005, 12:04 AM Damn, I hope thats not it, I just bought the truck a month ago and its at 115k. Is that considered a tough replacement? I might have to do it myself.

outside of the damage done to the wallet, probably the hardest part is getting the vibration damper bolt off. I hear it is a real joy.
Since your at 115k your past the engine warranty. Seeing as how you just bought it a month ago I would go back and see what I could get the dealer to do to fix the problem if it is a water pump.
