I just got an '05 K3500 too. Birch Silver SLT pkg. Duramax/Allison. I had a C3500 a couple of years ago with the 6.5 and loved it, but had to get something a little more family oriented, so I got a K2500 suburban ( '99 7.4 ). Now my Suburban is sitting in my back yard looking for a new home...Anyone????
We considered a 7.3 PSD Excursion, but I just couldn't bring myself to buying a Ford..-:t
I plan to be using my truck to pull my Jeep/trailer, and my 23' Donzi. I am looking to be buying a computer upgrade for fuel and power, but do not want to be replacing a transmission any time soon.
I am also wanting to know about the navigation/stereo system that upgrades too. My truck has the Bose speakers and the 6 disc changer with the steering wheel controls.
All of these new words have me confused (finger stick, Lux, LLY). Although after reading a few things I know what LLY is I understand this, and think I am learning about the finger stick. I don't plan to do any exhaust modifications other than just a pyrometer and EGT gauge.
Any newbie help is appreciated...
Thanks in advance, Ricky...seeya...

Ricky,
We have an 04 that is almost the same truck. Love it. We pull a 37' 5er (almost 14K depending on tank levels) with ours. We also wanted an upgrade for power and MPG that was easy to adjust on the fly and did not require a new transmission.
We added an Edge EZ module (I put on in 15 minutes) and run it on Level 1 mots of the time. It can be adjusted on the fly to Level 2 or Level 3 with a simple toggle switch in the cab.
I know you said no exhaust mod but you might want to re-think. We also added an MBRP 4" exhaust to get the hot exhaust gases out of the engine. The exhaust is not loud at all and really helped with power.
We just got back from a 2000 mile round trip from northern Florida to northern Ohio (I-95, I-26, I-40, I-75) and had more power than we could imagine. Got 13.4 MPG going up and 13.7 MPG coming back through Smokey and Blue Ridge Mountains.
The big butt truck (love the name - fits both truck and owner) has as much acceleration as the Yukon XL Denali we traded in on it. Nothing like having a kid in some micro machine stare at you when I decide to lay on it and leave them behind:D .
And best of all both the Edge and MBRP additions were just over $800. And I was able to put both on myself in the driveway without the help of a mechanic. I would (and always do) recommend both the Edge EZ and MBRP exhaust.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys... I hope to be able to contribute soon..
About the exhaust, once I recover from the initial shock of buying a new vehicle, I may be doing exhaust. I can get the MBPR stuff at a very reasonable price.. One of my hobbies/side business is playing with jeeps, and my Warn winch distributor sells the MBRP exhaust..I may have to demo a set for the "company".. ):h
Do they have a bung for the pyrometer probe?
Thanks again, Ricky...seeya...

RickyR,
I just bought a 05 3500 as well only mine is Carbon Metallic. I am also thinking of exhaust/power. I don't really want to run afoul of GM warranty issues. This truck is awsome! As you can see from my username I to am into Jeeps, but the big ones!

No bung for the pyro. You will need to drill and tap it yourself. Check the DIY section for some excellent details and pics.
Lux= Luxury Bose System---Usually found in Denali's, etc. The one in your Dmax is the "Basic" Bose system. More info on this in the Audio section.

I have the 4 inch exhaust and the original edge chip. The exhaust makes a huge difference. I would not be without either. It is also a lot of fun to blow lots of black smoke into the open windows of the rice burners when they don't want to let you change lanes.
The pyro probe is very easy to drill and tap. Just be sure you have the correct drill bit and tap. Nothing to it.

Same as what Tom Cobb said. I got the Edge/*** and MBRP 4 inch exhaust and my EGT (Exhaust Gas Temps) went down and sound is still very quiet! I also put the stick and plate in... read about these. Both can be done in about an hour. You'll find sources and everything by searching this site. I think the engine longevity is the best argument for these. My sources say that EGR sacrifices an (estimated) 10-20% of engine life in a diesel (because of soot/particulates fed into intake). Anyway, look at my signature and you'll see what I've done from what I've learned here. My gas mileage is great, and I'd do everything again. Good luck.
