: ATS Turbo Questions??????
overkill375 02-04-2010, 12:37 AM I just got a complete ATS turbo kit for the 6.2 that is still on the donor motor I even got the guages from the cab EGT and Boost I think. Also got all the eghaust parts pipes to get me away from the motor. Do you guys know anything about this kit? Were they good turbos/kits? If I wuss out on putting this on What would a fair asking price be if all is in working condition? Last what kind of milage hit would my truck take if I went to a turbo?
300stw 02-04-2010, 07:52 AM dont know much about them but put me inline if your interested in selling,,,a turbo setup for me would be better than no turbo,,,,
IamDave0887 02-04-2010, 09:49 AM There's not a lot of ATS kits around it seems. I've seen more Banks turbo kits.
I've got no information on the ATS kit. I've attempted to dig around on the internet and see what i could find but ATS still makes turbos for all the new trucks so when you search for anything all you get it information on the newer turbos, and nothing on the kit for the 6.2.
I've been hunting for a ATS it for a while. Can't ever find one locally or even within a few hundred miles.
DItto on the sale, if 300STW turns it down of course. My blazer needs a turbo. :D
kingjason 02-04-2010, 10:07 AM I have got one on mine and it is a decent little set up. Uses the stock air cleaner and on my truck you can still get to the glow plugs fairly easily. I havent tried to get to the front injector yet so wouldnt know on that.
rpratt 02-04-2010, 10:44 AM I have one on my truck too. I noticed a small increase in power while pulling a trailer, but not too much of an increase..... until I turned up the pump about a month later. If you do put the turbo on, take the time to turn up the pump too, it makes a huge difference.
My mileage did go down, but I believe it was for two reasons. I was getting into the turbo for fun, which of course required more throttle, and I think that it was running a little too cool to be efficient without turning the pump up. I just turned the pump up yesterday so I don't know if it has had any effect on mileage yet.
IamDave0887 02-04-2010, 10:54 AM where do you guys find these ATS turbos?
Not that i have any money for one  but it seems that I'm looking in all the wrong places.
Also since there seems to be very little information on them, would either of you be willing to post detailed pictures of the setup just for membership reference?

Mine is a little different than others that I have seen. My oil drainback line goes directly to a hole in the oil pan, most of the ATS kits that I have seen mounts the turbo closer to the valve cover and the oil drain goes into the valve cover.
4320Diesel 02-04-2010, 09:14 PM isnt that a little hard on the seals to be running no CDR and hooked direct to the intake hose?
rpratt 02-05-2010, 08:25 AM I have no idea, I bought a parts truck for the turbo setup and this is the way they had it put together. I do get a little oil in the intake (minor), but haven't had any noticable oil consumption, do you think putting a CDR back inline would eliminate the oil in the intake?
4320Diesel 02-05-2010, 08:31 AM there might be a little oil in but the CDR would prevent the seals being sucked in if your airfilter gets kinda plugged and the turbo gets spooled up its gonna make some good vacuum in the crankcase.
boostedretard 02-05-2010, 09:37 PM i agree i would put it back in. im willing to bet the compressor wheel and housing is covered in oil. your kit looks like a one off custom kit. Idont think thats a ats kit.
SMiller 02-05-2010, 09:47 PM Oil in the intake equals free horse power...
Diaric 02-05-2010, 09:56 PM Oil in the intake equals free horse power...
till it runs away on oil
4320Diesel 02-05-2010, 10:03 PM plus it makes a F of a mess in the intake manifold and intake runners.
redneck_truck19 02-06-2010, 01:52 AM rpratt, could you get a pic of the setup without the air cleaner? that seems like an odd setup, just curious what's under there.
wellgeo03 02-06-2010, 06:10 AM I have an ATS on my truck as well. Works very nicely. I am not sure on my mileage as I changed my timing since I last checked it.
That being said, with my timing too far advanced (think very poor turbo response) I could get anywere between 23 and 29 Canadian mpg.
After I backed down the timing a little, I got much better spooling, but I am not sure what it has done to my mileage yet as I have a bad head gasket and haven't been driving it. The gasket was leaking before I put on the turbo and was not caused by boost.
I have pics of the install in my garage...I am not sure how to post them here.
4320Diesel 02-06-2010, 08:29 AM i thought yours was a CTS turbo because thats whats in your signature.
wellgeo03 02-06-2010, 08:43 AM Yes it is, but it is the same thing, just rebranded for Canadian Turbo System.
overkill375 03-15-2010, 03:17 PM Apparantly I made some body sad edited to reflect that.
Trios 03-15-2010, 03:24 PM Wow. That's like, at least 2 violations of forum etiquette. Maybe more. In one post, and one sentence even.
overkill375 03-15-2010, 03:41 PM Trios I edited my post but please let me know what the second violation was. I was not in the correct forum to sell and????????? Lets' let it die pm'd trios
Trios 03-15-2010, 03:44 PM And you bumped an old, tired post, without adding anything that would have been useful to someone who finds that post in a year from a forum search. It's best to let threads a month old die, and start a new thread if you have a question or comment on ATS turbos.

Well..... to play devils advocate for a minute...... it was HIS thread to begin with......
Trios 03-15-2010, 04:00 PM Which I didn't realize at the time. I have apologized to him in PMs, we ought to let this die now.
Joeairforce 03-15-2010, 04:00 PM Agreed
Half Max 03-15-2010, 09:29 PM i got an ats set up on my truck i like it!
IamDave0887 03-15-2010, 11:05 PM If I had the money i'd put an ATS or Banks setup on my blazer.
