If you want performance, it seems like a reflash this the way to go. However, this performance comes with a price tag. Is the reflash any better than installing a boost fooler and a #9 resistor? Or more to the point, has anyone come up with a low budget combo that gives similar results to a reflash?

#9 resistor, boost fooler, optic bump and tweaking the timing is definitely getting more power on the cheap, and you will get a noticeable improvement in power.

Most reflashes out there will blow that away though.

when you say reflash you mean reprogramming the pcm right? is that cheaper than buying a whole new computer? it seems like all the vendors can add 80? hp for around 600 bucks. I guess what I am really asking is buying a new computer will enhance the performance more as a whole then fooling the boost and bumping the timing?

Yes, its a computer controlled pump, and you can lie to it a little with changing the resistor, fooling the map sensor and moving the optic sensor, but these are pretty limited in what they can offer.

so the best thing to do, if you have the money, is buy a new computer and you will see greater overall gains?

this is what I gather greenmtn. I am infact ordering a chip for my 95' first thing tommorow morning. But be warned, I have worked a while in preparing for this. Free flowing exhaust is quite important and gauges reading boost and pyro are essential.

I just finished my gauge installation today....as Silvy said, don't do any power mods without gauges, or risk damage to your engine. Of course, now that I've got gauges, I see where boost pressure is-:t...peaks out at 6 on HARD accelleration. Maybe hits 2 on mild accelleration. That "TURBO POWER" engine cover is flagrant false advertising. MORE MODS NEEDED.....

disconnect your wastegate and go for a burn, you'll then be happy to have that 6 psi back.... lol
