Got up this morning, cranked the truck and none of my preset stations were set, my check engine light is on...hmmm what is the voltage needed for batteries? At start I think it was about 12 volts. How do I check the batteries?

volt meter or local parts store.

Get yourself some CAT batteries if yours are dead.

voltage needed? are you asking what the charging voltage should be ?or what the batteries should be when sitting? if you think your batteries are going south then get them load tested.... most parts stores will do it for free. then you will know for sure if your batteries are on the way out..... for me the crank speed is the biggest giveaway though.

when the truck is running the voltage should be 13+ remember the gauge may be lying so check with a volt meter!

and fwiw.... CAT batteries are way overpriced! and die just like any! get some with a good warranty.
