Hey folks, new to the site so I wanted to introduce myself properly before I start bombarding you with questions. I have lurked over the past year since I determined my next vehicle would be a diesel. I currently own various diesel products – Ford 3000 tractor, ’88 International Dump with DT406 engine, 72” Ransome mower with a 25hp Kubota Diesel so I am aware of their benefits and reliability. The obvious next step for me was to get a daily driver. The information gleaned from this site has been tremendous and if you doubt that please note that I did buy a 1994 K2500 P/U with issues and never looked back. You guys have already fixed one – OPS switch/Lift pump issue without me ever posting……just using the search function and FAQ. I do have one other minor issue left to figure out and I will be posting the diagnostic checklist soon on that.
I have a strong mechanical background and a stronger electrical background. I have been working on my own cars since I got my first one in High School (’77 Nova). I spent 6 years in the Navy from '88-'94 as a GSE working on Allison 501K and LM2500 Turbines with ports of call in Mayport Fl, Pascagoula Ms, Charleston SC and North Chicago Il. I served on two Destroyers – USS John Hancock and USS Thorn. I got out in 1994 started working at a power plant here in Tennessee, swapped to mechanic’ing on fork lifts because of a conflict between people’s need for electricity 24/7 and my need to not work like I was still in the Navy….lol. I quit all that in ‘99 and went to College on the GI Bill where I got my undergraduate degree in Physics and a Masters in Business Admin. I currently work for one of the big air conditioning manufacturers here in Middle Tennessee as an Applications Engineer crunching numbers and pushing the envelope on what our Commercial Units can do.
I have been married to the same beautiful woman for 21 years, I fish, I hunt, and I dabble in amateur archeology as a member of the Central States Archeology Society for 12+ years. I hope to contribute to the site more than I take and right now I can tell you I am behind. If anyone needs excel spreadsheet help or energy transfer equations solved do not hesitate to ask….. :-)
Thanks, John
