My truck started having white smoke a few months ago, so I finally took it to the dealership today. They told me that cylinders 1,3,5,7 were bad and I need a new engine. Engine runs smooth, doesn't burn oil, and no fuel in oil. 122k miles, dealer tried to say damage was from edge programmer and aftermarket air filter letting dirt pass by. Air filter is an Amsoil high efficiency cold air intake. Any help would definately appreciated.

First thing I would do is find a diesel shop that specializes in diesels and see what he thinks the problem is
did the dealer do any test that gave them that conclusion or just look at your mods and blame them for your problem

x2, sounds like classic injector issues. Many dealerships are not competent when it comes to diesel service.

why do dealerships employ such idiots? "cylinders 1, 3, 5, 7 are bad" What the hell is that supposed to mean, haha.
find a new dealer.

They said they tested compression and they said GM's acceptable range is between 300-350 and mine tested around 280 and had one that was 230. They immediately said it needed to be replaced for a total cost of $10,500... I am stumped how all of the cylinders went bad almost immediately and it is blowing white exhaust that smells like fuel. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I would think it would be idling rough or missing if the engine was that bad... I'll have to get another opinion, I was just caught way off guard yesterday when I went in thinking I would be getting new injectors under warranty and then I come out thinking I need a $10k motor...

Yea would def. not let them work on my stuff. It shouldnt even start if it had low compression in all them cyliders and if it did try it would sound like a 2 cylinder john deere. Pull the air intake off and look and see if you see dirt any where. Do you have another programmer stacked with the edge?

yeah dealers dont cover any injector work when u have any kind of programmer on it... especially the edge. sounds like an injector issue tho... find a good diesel shop.... might just need to be pulled an resealed....anythins possible. if u gotta pay to replace um u might as well upgrade um all well your at it. Get some more power ;)

i can say for sure that i wouldn't let them touch my truck at all. when i had my injectors done under warranty i was mislead a little bit. the dealer i went to said that there guys were "world class" mechanics and they can work on it all. all that means is that they have a few ASE classes done and they have alldata and NOT diesel mechanics. they didn't even put my boost tubes back on right. the band clamps were all loose. if you plan to keep your truck, get it to some that knows what there doing.
