Started my 2003 duramax this morning, 3 degree weather, no block heater on .. started right up with few seconds of clattering and banging like a cold diesel, then ran fine ... however, kicked out about 2 oz of black oil from under the front of engine ... can't see where, and did not bother any more during days activities. Ideas ...

Crankcase vent .... Probably just condensation oil mix ... You guys aren't doing your Max any favors not using your block heater for cold start ups if possible ....

My truck did the exact same thing 2 days in a row around 6 degrees outside. It has never done it since?

Mac ... you are correct on the block heater ... the factory had tied the plug underneath the side of the engine ... took the GMC garage 30 min this AM finding the plug, putting the vehicle on a lift and extending the plug ... is is plugged in as we speak ... Thanks, Wayne
