Almost time to pick up my new 05 cc Duramax. I have the choice between Federal or California emissions model. Is there a significant difference between them? CAT? EGR?

Thanks!

Go with the Federal model, especially if you are going to do any kind of engine mods.

I thought I read on the GM site that the '05s and on Dmax's are 50 state legal -- which means they all have the same emission gear. The CA deal is likely just a fee for our states ailing economy ):h

Having moved in/out/and in to CA, as long as it's a used car/truck you are bringing in, and if it has a 50 state emission, you can register it here with no probs. If you were buying a NEW vehicle out of state and planing on registering it the 1st time in CA, it better have the CA emissions fee (cert) on it...

The 50 state model should be a hundred or so bucks cheaper, so if the "register inew n CA" stuff I wrote doesn't apply, I'd just go 50 state (Fed) emissions too...

I bought mine out of state and had no problem registering it in CA. Mine had the 50 state emission decal no CA decal. Also you have to get it weighed at a certified weigh station.

The difference between the two LLY trucks is just software in the ECM. The engines are all the same as far as hard parts go.

Would it be possible to put a Federal Emissions calibrated ECM into my 04.5 thatI purchased in NY (I know I'd need a Tech2 or someone with one to program it)? I now live in Missouri, where diesels are exempt from emissions, and it would be nice to get rid of the NE/Kali calibrated ECM.

The vehicles are all the same California just wants the additional $300.00 surcharge if the vehicle was not a California original sold vehicle. Had the same problem with my Lighting when I brought it here from out of State. 50 state Legal reluctantly registered by DMV and the fee was waived, after 3 hours and three supervisiors at DMV. As typical is was almost an all day thing to get the vehcile registered.

New user and new owner so long as the dealership meets my offer. I have the dealership build sheet in front of me and it says

NC7 federal emissions override
NE1 MA/ME/NY/VT emissions

I live in CT and it was ordered by the same CT dealer that I'm dealing with.
