I've been lurking on this website for a while hoping for the day I can get a Duramax. I've been wanting a Diesel P/U for quite some time but just couldn't make myself spend $50k for one. The deal GM has going on right now sparked my interest enough to go shopping this week and I couldn't believe the discounts and no haggle pricing. I went to several stores and all had the same price up front, even taped to the window. The truck is an Silver Birch w/ Pewter interior GMC Sierra2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab with the Duramax Diesel, Allison 5spd. automatic, and the SLT package which includes leather 6 way power seats for driver and passenger, as well as heated and memory. One year free Onstar, and three months free XM Satellite which I'm already hooked on. I've put 300 miles on it in two days and love it. This is the time to buy. I traded in a 2000 Z-71 Chevy LT with some body dings, a worn out drivers seat and 150k miles and they gave me 11k for it.
I cant wait to tow with it. The 5.3 that was in my Chevy ran pretty good in the high R's but had no torque. I mostly pull a Center Console boat that weighs about 4k pounds, not that much but wind drag from the T-Top makes it pull like the brakes are on.

Looks just like the one I just purchased. The dealer has been moving a lot of them with the current deal. I moved up from an 01 Ford PSD with a Bully Dog chip. That truck was no slouch but could not touch the new GMC.

I bought mine last week. Same color except Extentended Cab with long bed. I pull a 13000 lb 5th wheel and did not want a short bed because you loose the entire bed to a slider hitch. I can't wait to see how the durmax/allison pulls. I looked at the Ford and Dodge and once I drove the Chevy LT version I traded in my 99 PSD Ford. That was my second Ford Diesel. I can't believe I had not even considered the Durmax. This truck is quite and has comfort that I only dreamed about with the Ford I had.

Congrats speedrcr... I got mine 9 days ago and like you traded in a 2000 Z71 LT for the 2500HD LT... Love it so far. I pulled my motorcyle trailer this weekend. I could not beleive how easy it pulled... You will love it.
Thanks the the knowledge the Diesel Place members, I am learning more about my truck everyday...
Good Luck fishing in PCB. Heard the Reds and Specks are tearing them up right now.

I traded my 03 Avalanche with the 5.3 for the Silverado 2500HD Duramax. I was in such trouble towing my Prowler 7900# & wow what a difference in power & mileage. Got a great deal, -$10k off sticker, $18.5 for the Av, other stuff & I have a payment of $218 a month. Very pleased.

I just got back from PCB and I must say I cant believe the difference between pulling with the D/A Vs. the 5.3 gas that the chevy had in it. I had to keep looking behind me to see if the boat had fallen off the trailer.):h The mileage was a little lower than expected (12.7) but I'm sure that will get better after brake in. It had 32 miles last Thursday and now has 1150....I'm getting there.
beermccoy, We tore up the Kings trolling one day and went offshore and caught Grouper and AJ's the next day. Didn't try inshore for the Reds and Specs but I did hear the same thing about them.
