My cruise quit working one day, so I pulled into a parking lot, & shut the truck off to check the fuse. The fuse looked ok, so I put it back in & took off thinking "Oh great, looks like I'll have to take it in to the dealer". After I got up to speed again, I tried it & it worked fine. Don't know if that will work for you, but it's worth a shot.

Whatever ended up happening Z71? I went to use mine this afternnon and had nothing, turned cruise button off back on no difference...Tried about 10 mins later and worked fine 6 times in a row...Never shut it off, only thing i did was put it in reverse and back to drive....hmm

I think some of the temp ECM codes keep it from working, but I'm not positive. I have had mine quit working and the next key cycle they are fine.

It could be in the mulltifunction switch, too. I know that on the S-trucks, sometimes parts of them go bad for no reason.

Also make sure the brake lights aren't stuck on. I have seen that little plastic switch that works off the brake pedal slip on the threads.

I know that on my old gas half ton (2004), when i did 4 wheel drive donuts it throws a code and doesnt alow the cruise to work. Just had to clear the code and it worked.

Dont know if that helps at all.

Does the Cruise Control not work too or just the dash light?

Back to what RickDLance said, it may be your Stop Lamp Switch. This switch has several contacts.

Contacts A/B - Center High Mounted Stop Lamp
Contacts C/D - to ABS System and Cruise Control Release
Contacts E/F - Auto Trans Shift Lock Control

Contacts C/D, (normally closed contacts), gets its power from Brake Fuse 10A, (located in Fuse Block Left) flows through contacts C/D and then goes to the ECM.
All the people talking about intermittant failures, and by turning truck off, shifting to reverse, all require depressing the brake.
The next time it fails, try cycling the brakes and see if it starts to work. The brake switch may need adjustment, or one of the three contacts is starting to fail.

Mine quite working one time this summer. Cruising at 65, it just cut off and wouldn't come back on. Started working the next day. Only thing I noted is that I hit 1/4 tank of fuel about the time it quit. I always thaought it may be a built in "don't run out of fuel" warning.

Try holding the Set Button for a few seconds longer. I thought mine quit working too, but if you just press the set button quickly (like I used to do on my older truck), it wouldnt work.

...Being a little stubborn, I held the button longer and then it would work. I tried at least 2 dozen times of each method and it only work with the "press and hold" method.

Mine does the same as jhnz71, but only after the SixGun was installed ~40K miles ago. I always thought it was six-gun related.
