I'm looking into buying a 4" lift for my truck. Its my DD and used for plowing during the winter. Right now I have aftermarket keys and they're fully cranked and i'm running 16x8 wheels with 315/75/16 tires. A few people from gmfullsize sent me here to find more out about the 4" Tuff Country kit because they thought there was more info about it here then there. I'm really torn between the 4" Cognito, 4" Rancho, and now the 4" Tuff Country kits and from the prices i've seen online the Tuff Country seems to be the most well priced. What do you guys think would be the best way to go or are they all about the same? Thanks!

plowing with a lift isnt a good idea! although a 4" might not be too bad.

Why is it a bad idea? and i'm asking that because I honestly don't know why....

There are a couple members on the board that plow with lifts. 1 member has a 6" skyjacker lift on a ext cab long box and he seems to love it.

DO you know how I can get a hold of him? I want to know if he had to do any kind of mods to the plow mount since the truck sits so much higher then stock. I'm using a 9'2" Boss V Plow with the smart hitch 2 system

I don't know how much snow plowing and sled pulling have in common as far as strain on parts, but I don't have any complaints with my TC lift. I use my truck as a DD and I pull 5-6 times a year.

Have their 6", no complaints at all so far. Definitely recommend their stuff.

Firefighter Rob is the members user name. Not sure what plow he's running but send him a message

well you want the truck as low on the plow as you can the lower it hangs below the frame it will stress the mount points. sepends how heavey of plowing you plan on doin. it has no effect on drive line parts. not sure why sled pulling wan mentioned here

I run a tuff country 4inch. with like a 3 1/2 or 4 inch block in the rear. I forget what i put back there. Did it after I got the lift put on. I farm and drive my truck thru hell. It have 130,000 miles on it. With about 100,000 miles of it being lifted. I would have liked a cognito but didnt want to spend the money. My tuff country works fine for me. I tow almost everyday. Tow really heavy loads too.

You will be fine plowing with a 4" T.C. lift;) The only thing to keep in mind is your tire size, Make sure you leave enough room to compensate for the weight of the plow.

I would really like to go with a 6" kit now that I've talked to firefighter rob. He has the 6" skyjacker kit on his truck and he plows with it and says he has no problems. Now I just have to decide which brand I want. I'll post pics up after I figure out which one and install it. Thanks for all the help!

Personally I think the track width increase on the Rancho makes the front end look funny. TC keep the wheels in fairly tight. just my opinion.......

ya i have the same idea keep the wheel in, the ifs already is goofy enough with the front way wider than the back! TC is 3/8 a side i beleive, only kit that can beat it for track width is cognito, but im thinking of trying a TC 4'', reasonably priced

One more reason I went with TC.

cognito is a favorite on this site and they make great stuff but they are a bit more pricey. the tuff country 4'' is a great lift for the money...zinc bilsteins are an excellent addition to that lift if you go that route.

you should be fine plowing my dodge sits as kigh as a chevy with a 4" lift. The main thing you have to watch is plow angle. If you lift your truck make sure the angle where the blade hits the ground tipped forward or you will dig in more. You want to try to keep you plow a frame as parrelel to the gound as possible.

I think i've decided to go with the 6"TC lift. Someone on a different site tried talking me into the 6"RCD kit but i'm not a big fan since it only comes with a 3 piece sub frame and i'm looking for a one piece

I'm curious why you are ruling out a 3 piece sub frame? I believe the newly released TC lift is a 3 piece with an integrated skid plate.

You can get a 1 piece or 3 piece kit from T.C., I choose the 3 piece;)

Yep, 3 piece strong kit here too. No Probs, love it.

I swear the skid plate that conects the front and rear subframe is at least 3/8'' plate! Its Stout!!!

Really well built kit. Dont let the price fool you.

I've decided i'm definetly going with the TC lift but from what i've heard on other forums the 1 piece vs. the 3 piece sub frame is going to be stronger and hold up better with the weight of my plow being on the front. I don't know though. You guys have any input since your saying the 3 piece is going to be just as strong as the 1 piece. Thanks!

I have been trying to decide what to do with my truck since i got it. one thing to take into consideration is bolted connections are really strong. I have a lbz with 11000 miles on it bone stock. I was offered 35,000.00 for it lots of people seem to think lbz is the best one . It was perfected and then emmissions came that is actually why I bought it. Think about cognito before you pull the trigger. I am going cognito 4-6 set at 5 they really have gm trucks nailed down. I am sure they all work fine thats just my opinion. good luck .

ive been trying to decide on a lift for a while now. cant decide between rancho and cognito because i only want 4". but my problem is between the differences in the sub frames and the ability to run dual shock hoops in the front. rancho has the one piece sub frame but congito doesnt. cognito has the UCA that mounts dual shocks straight to the hoops, while rancho bolts to the factory UCA and some claims it cause the upper bushing to wear out prematurely. i just wanna know which one is the best?...and why?

I really couldnt tell you .I am going to go with cognito in afew months. I am lifting a dually. 4 inch kit with hoops and arms setting at 5. I am not selling this truck so I want to do it the way I think will be best long term. By the time that is cooked I will put a straight axle in the way it is suppose to be. I dont like my stock lbz at all I drive my 26 year old dually everyday 554, 000 miles. 10 degrees turn the key. Trucks have become to complicated. Its a truck nothing to reinvent every year .

I was checking out a site and it said it would fit 07-08 torrsion bar trucks only. I thought from 99-08 they were all the same. No?

Is there a ride height difference between the TC 1 peice or 3 peice?

It will fit 01-08 trucks with torsion bar suspension. I think some 07-08 trucks went to coil spring suspension.

The strong is the 3 piece kit. I don't see why they would be different in height between the 2.

No differance^^^

No difference in height between the 1 and 3 piece subframe models. The 3 piece is stronger (more support) and from what Tony B said, working on the front diff with the 1 piece is a major PITA.

I'm going with the 3 piece 4" kit and thinking about installing the realift torsion bar locators.

Anyone run a TC lift with the realift torsion bar relocators?
