Just drove 220 miles. -8C outside temps.

Banks 6 gun PDA in the truck for 3 years.

20 miles from hotel iget a red CEL on the PDA but no CEL on the truck itself.
checked codes - none present. Went to Diagnostics and there were as per usual 720 logged events (typical Key logs/passed diagnostics). Latest event was trans slip event. # 42

There was no other indication, I monitor Trans temps all the time on the PDA and it was runnign steady at ~150F. Recently changed out trans fluid during a major service of the Ally (15k ago), and I always run Transynd.

How do I clear this from the PDA tuner..?

probably got to do the secret reset. On off 5 times or something like that. There is an exact procedure to follow step-by-step. How many key cycles, and seconds in between.

look in the owners manual, or do a search on ' banks reset'

Be sure to throw in a couple right foot in, right foot out's they help too.

edit - Just did a quick search and cant find the reset instructions here. I know I've seen them somewhere

Hey Steakman.. I am looking for the reset to, but can not find it. The good news is you probably did not do any damage I think that is a common bug once in while.. Did you contact Jeff Barker on here.. He will know for sure. I will keep checking my files for it to..

Thanx Crash..!

I've had a deep pan on since I bought the truck, and just for shites n giggles, just checked my fluid..it was down a bit (1/2 Qt), and added some transynd to bring it up to just at the beginning of the "hot XXXX"

I know I weep a bit on one side of the pan..result of a stripped Hex key bolt..but nothing to be considered major. I check it often to make sure I always have a good load of fluid in there and change out my spin on regularly with oil changes - typically every 15-17,000km. (running an FS2500 on the oil side).
I get nervous when it comes to Allison issues...they can get expensive..!! :D

Oh, I think I just found it:

If the Six-Gun Diesel Tuner has been moved to a different vehicle, or you are instructed to do so by Banks Technical Staff, it is possible to reset all of the parameters that the Six-Gun has ‘learned’ - presence of an EGT thermocouple or Speed-Loader, etc.

CAUTION: The following procedures can only be carried out with the engine OFF!

1. Turn the vehicle key to ON but DO NOT start the engine.
2. Fully depress the throttle pedal and then release it completely. Repeat 5
times. The GREEN LED will flash when this is completed successfully.
3. Turn the key OFF. Wait 30 seconds, or until the GREEN LED goes off and
stays off. Turn the key back to the ON position but DO NOT start the engine.
4. Fully depress the throttle pedal and then release it completely. Repeat 5
times..again

Mind you, I will give this a try but you were saying that this may be a bug in the software..?? I had better check to see if there is another update avail.

Cheers,

stk

Bug might not be the right word. If it see a little bit of slipping it throws that 42 error.. Do check with Jeff Barker on this he can really explain it correctly. Glad you found it.. Take care...

Thanx Crash for that..helped big time.! Left the hotel this AM, warmed up some Transynd in the cab..filled to the right level..did the 5 n 5 and voila, no red engine light on the pda.

drove 230 miles and worked like a charm.

Keep the instructions in the glove box, they come in handy.

Someone needs to make that reset a sticky at the top of the banks forum.

I would. Start fresh, w/o somebody else's codes/problems in the Banks unit.

I got this same code minutes after I had my ATS Stage II
Co-Pilot completed. Was heading down the road and gave it a burst of WOT...next thing I see is flashing red code see tuner diagnostics for details...:blahblah:. Did the hokey pokey and have not had the code come up since and that was 3 weeks ago with some pretty hard driving. But come tomorrow , my efilive will be in and the Banks will be for guages only.........Banks has a good product , but it would be really nice if they would catch up with the PPE , EDGE RACE , EPOWER , and EFILIVE.

Not really a bump...but this happened to me again yesterday while driving down hwy 401 west from Cornwall to Toronto. I went to pass while pulling my trailer, gave er a bit of go juice and when I looked at the pda..same issue. This time after about 3 different key cycles (not doing a reset), it came back to green on it's own. The fluid was a tad low showing barely touching the "XXXHOTXXX' on the dipstick..added a bit to get it to the middle and off I went.

I'm thinking it may be time to do a complete overhaul on the ally anyway, at 173K miles it may be time..albeit have drained and re-filled (w/transynd), on a couple of occasions since obtaining the truck at 51K.

cheers,
