I just bought my son an '01 2500HD Ext Cab 4X4 w/6.0L and 4L80E transmission. After about on hour of driving it on the way to work today, I noticed it was shifting hard. Checked and made sure it wasn't in T/H. Kinda felt like it had a shift kit in it. Trans temp was 195 deg. Fluid level is OK and has good color and odor. Is this common?

This is the first time I got to drive it any significant distance. Truck has 105,000 miles on it.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If it got significantly firmer, then I would scan it and see if you have any trans codes. It may be in the first stage of limp, where it raises line pressure to keep it from being damaged until it gets fixed. It may have sensed a slip to put it in that mode.

Also with that many miles on it (who knows how hard of miles) you might look at putting a kit in it. If you wait till it quits you usually tear up hard parts (big $) you can usually buy a trans kit for less than $200.00. I think of it as cheap insurance, when I get 100,000 miles on it I throw a kit at it and know its good for another 100,000.
