My last truck (Toyota Tundra) had just enough storage under the rear seats and in the rear doors for all my tie-down straps, tow rope, receiver hitch, parachute cord and miscellaneous truck necessities. My brand-new GMC crew cab has absolutely no storage space at all for this stuff (!). I don't and won't have a truck box in the bed; where do you guys keep all your stuff?

Am I gonna have to keep a canvas tool bag or something in the back seat to hold all my truck stuff in plain sight?

Love this forum! Thanx for sharing any ideas!

I have one. For the crew cab it doesn't have much room, but it is amazing how many small things I can store in it or under the seat. Tie downs, gloves, battery cables. etc. and it does make a nice gun case as well. easily holds two rifles and ammo.

A little spendy but I'm happy with it.

i know you said you don't want a truck box but have you considered one of those porkchop boxes? They sit in front or behind of the wheel wells and even with the top of the bed rails. i know weatherguard makes some and other companies as well.

I remember seeing rear bumpers that looked kinda neat with built in tool boxes. Any one have any info on these?

It just might be another idea for storage. myself I am not too fond of storing dirty greasy rusty hitches inside my truck. Plus if your straps or rope get wet then what?

I bought a plastic $4 rubbermaid type container with lid that slides under my rear Crew Cab seats. Fits all my tie rachet downs, receiver hitch insert, and misc small items. Pull it out when I need the stuff. No need to flip up the seat or anything. Got em target, IIRC. Do upgraded interiors have other things using up the space under the rear seats?

We built some homemade boxes that fit behind the seats. It holds a lot more than you would think. We are still storing some larger stuff under the seats (reciever hitches etc.).

Second pic shows the adjustable dividers.

Ryan,

That looks perfect!! Do you have the dimensions of the boxes?? Do you have them secured or does the weight hold it down OK. Thanks for a great idea.

The dimensions are:

Width (behind driver's side seat): 33.5"
Width (behind passenger's side seat): 17.5
Height: 7"
Depth: 6.5"

They are not anchored at all, they wedge in tight when the seats are up. Even with the seats folded down, they stay put with no problem.

They are made in two sections for easier removal.

I actually got the idea from a thread here on thedieselplace somewhere. Forget which one.

Glad I could help

I don't like reciever shanks stored in the cab. Have you ever thought of where they'll end up in a wreck, or what if you roll? A reciever shank would be an real weapon flying around in the cab. ;)

I want to weld a short piece of reciever hitch tube under my bed to hold my shank.

I totally forgot about the "porkchop" tool boxes that tuck ahead of or behind the wheel well in the bed - I may go that route so I don't have all my dirty/dangerous-in-a-wreck stuff in the cab.

Ryan G: That is one sweet set-up. I am not much of a wood bender, but I may try and fab up something similar to hold miscellaneous crapola. It looks like you upholstered the outside of your box - that's a nice touch, and I bet it is way cheaper than the storebought boxes, man those things are spendy!

BTW, you can store three twelve-can "fridge packs" behind the seats with no problems - only sodas, of course:D

i made a box similar to ryan to hold most of my stuff behind the seat, i posted pics up here a while back. i also bought some canvas tool bags from home depot that i use to hold bungees, chain, etc. under the rear seat. its amazing how much you can store when its all organized.

i use a porkchop type box, real handy and low profile. great 99% of the time, except when I am towing the FW and have to get into it.......otherwise, would not want stuff like my additive anywhere near the inside of the cab.....
